Was in a similar position years ago in my 20s. Blew all my cash on going out and rent. Even going to work all my cash went on breakfast, coffee, lunch. Had a wake up call. Decided to stop spending on unnecessary items like designer clothes, coffee, lunches, didn’t go out as much and when I did tried to make sure I was going crazy on my card. Slowly racked up savings.
Even ended up back at parents place for a bit, which was humiliating. Seemed to go through a cycle of promotions with withheld pay and on review then received very little bump in pay. But saved enough cash to turn it around after many years.
I think in 10-15 years time you’ll see people in their 40s living at home because they have little option. Hope people start thinking smarter with their cash. Wish I could go back and give myself a slap and snap out of it. Renting was fun for a bit but ultimately you’re lining someone else’s pockets.
I know this is Bristol but rents in London have gone absolutely insane. Who are all these people that can afford them? I know London has been bad since the 90s but this market is like it’s shifted a gear.
