It’s not about ‘afford’. Covid response has left our public finances in even more of a mess than before. There’s some horrible truths people will need to face up to. There’s nothing that says the UK has to have this benefit or that standard of living. Look around the world and in history. People complain (rightfully imo) that x, y, z benefit isn’t going up with inflation. There’s nothing to say that benefit has to even exist. It’s other people in society working and agreeing to give you some of their output. These people might not be willing to do so if they don’t feel they have enough for themselves.
It’s not difficult. Even Mr Micawber knew how it works. Continually spending vast sums of money on Quangos and Vanity Projects needs to end. Cutting taxes resulting in increased borrowing is madness. Focus solely on the things that truly matter for a few years like the NHS and our Justice system
