Fraudsters of the world, come to London. And bring your dirty money

  1. That’s one reason house prices/rent is so high. Folk squirrelling away their dirty money in property so the governments of their home countries cannot take it off them.

  2. It’s effectively our selling point these days. The government knows exactly what goes on, as do the banks, they just don’t ask questions and hope no one probes to deep into any of the dodgy dealings. There are inevitable small leaks and sometimes big drops like the Pandora Papers lay everything bare, however no one ever faces any significant punishment and nothing will change. It will get worse as Brexit gives us the opportunity to become a tax haven.

  3. Well, strictly speaking, London Estate Agencies are supposed to, by law, ensure source of funds are legitimate.

In practice I suspect minimal oversight is done.

A foreigner turns up to buy a £15m house. Commission £500k. You are going to put him through the ringer? I think not.
