I got a draft card on October 5. I will traveling by bicycle in Latvia in two years. I impressed to see [this man](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOtqJWM2IdAvLcRvHtNjP2a15iucqAqR5) cycling 2,100km from Saigon to Hanoi. Latvia is flatland, so I think it’s a good idea to try it. I will travel in a straight line from Riga to Daugaupils, or pass through major cities.

What kind of roads are bikeable in Latvia? Is the bike lane active there? Is the surface of Latvia solid to travel by bicycle? What should I be careful about while traveling by bicycle in Latvia?

  1. Latvian way of overtaking. They create 3 lanes, where there are 2. A cyclist on the side might get run over.

  2. Go from Riga to Liepaja instead, if you plan to head towards Lithuania then it’s a good option. Most of the rural roads are quite empty, but not fit for bikes, so you have to look out for cars. In Riga with bike lanes you’ll do fine, maybe…
