UK YouGov poll for The Times – changes with 8-9 Dec.

  1. This follows two other polls in recent days which gave Labour 8 and 6 point leads respectively in the immediate aftermath of “partygate” .

  2. It’ll all be forgotten by the time the next election comes around. Had exactly the polling lead during the previous scandal and a month later it reversed.
Boris will use the corporate tax increase to 25% in 2023 to fuel support for the next election.

  3. Interesting, but irrelevant. Voters don’t have very long memories so the only time public opinion will matter is in the six months leading up to elections. All Boris has to do is bring in a tax cut at the last minute, maybe a splashy housing initiative, and it will be like Brexit and the Pandemic never happened as far as the voters will be concerned.

These numbers would only matter if there was an election coming up soon, either via term limits or via the Tories starting to fracture. But this is not the case; next election is 2024. So: irrelevant.

  4. I still expect the Tories to win, but this shows that Labour does actually have some hope. Not everything slides off Johnson.

  5. If an election is held today, the Conservatives will win it. UK polls are pointless, especially with the FPTP system in play.

  6. Did the uk-people saw how climate-change will effect their isle, if we dont do something NOW?

..and after everyrhing in the past years.. the Tories get 32% ..wtf.

  7. Don’t underestimate the ability of any party that is basing itself on ‘Third Way’ type of principles (Labour, LibDems, Greens) or purely ‘anti’-programs (Reform) to shoot themselves in the foot/head (whichever is applicable).

A part of the Conservative voters will be going to Reform and a part probably are buying into Labour’s promises, but if Labour prioritizes ‘woke’ over social in the leadup to elections, don’t be surprised if those people run back to the Conservatives. Just like Reform might seem a ‘decent’ alternative, but if Reform like so many ‘alternative’ parties goes bonkers and extremist due to MPs being idiots, a part of the voters will also run back.

Those cheering for a poll like this will need to take stuff like this into account.

  8. inb4 it’s January 2024 the elections are near and the Tories will point finger to the Labour and make up some scandal over how they’re the good guys.
