UK drug strategy overhaul to focus on recovery not prison

  1. ‘The government will announce a new drugs strategy on Monday overhauling the drug recovery and treatment system, the BBC has learned.
The announcement is expected to pledge £700m over three years to tackle problem drug use.’

  2. Taking away people’s driving licenses and passports isn’t designed to foster recovery. The flimsy pretext of drug offenses is being used to give the government another excuse to dehumanise you. It’s the easiest thing in the world to plant something in your car and then it’s goodbye license and goodbye passport.

If we weren’t so downtrodden as a nation more people would recognise just how egregious this is.

  3. What a misleading State Media headline, the Tories are still resorting to punishment in response to a public health issue.

  4. Drug users who resort to criminal activity (aside from the dealers and everybody above them) certainly aren’t the types to be driving cars or going on holidays. Who the fuck are they trying to target here? Your regular joe who likes a sesh every now and again or festival goers?

No doubt all of those politicians are going to surrender their licenses and passports eh? I feel like we need to crowd fund some fucking billboard with overly simplistic versions of this stuff. Brexit style campaigns because I’m still fairly confident they’d win an election.

  5. Like they want to be Belarus 2.0. Stricter drug laws while the rest of the economically developed world/medical and drug science experts go the other way, strict laws against protests and even more cronyism than is usual in politics.

  6. “strategy”

What a load of utter bullshit announcing this on the same day they announce they plan to confiscate people’s passports and driving licenses for drug possession.
