  1. I’ve heard of this with cheque fraud. They send a cheque which ostensibly has a value of say €200 and you send €100 cash with the “movers”. Cheque bounces, you’re out whatever it is you’re selling and also down €100.

It’s more common in the US though.

  2. Sounds very like a scam, I’ve received similar messages on Facebook Marketplace. Usually when I ask to speak to them to clarify something then I never hear from them again.

  3. Ive had very similar while selling an item on Donedeal.

Opening line is always the same. Then they always offer to send a courier to pick it up, they cover all the costs and pay for the item, then end up sending a link asking for me to put in my details so I can collect the ‘monies’

Like I’m selling a really old shit Tv for my Nan, it’s non-smart, one of those ones from the early noughties with the massive back and weighs the same as an African elephant. Charging €40 for it. Remote is lost, no netflix, no saorview built in, no nothing 😂

And all these people are paying to send couriers to collect it from the complete opposite end of the country!?

They (scammers) are a bit like robots who get stronger and cleverer with each block. Like the first person txt from an Indonesian phone number and was clearly foreign, poor English. Blocked.

A day later, clearly another foreigner, less poor English, but with an 089 number. Blocked.

Next up, someone with perfect English, 089 number but foreign Whatsapp name. Blocked.

Next, someone with an 087 number, perfect English and a WhatsApp name of Aisling O’Connor.

But always the same, it always ends up with me being sent a link for a courier, usually “an-post.com” to collect my “monies”.

I can literally hear them drooling when I do be telling them Im only an old woman and not sure what the link does. Shall I put in all my bank details and pin number in so I get the money? A bit of over and back playing the fool, asking them as many questions as possible, “what’s an IBAN?” etc just to piss em off and waste their time 😁

  4. You should say yeh and give a shops address somewhere so whoever it is will have to pay DPD to pick it up.

It’s a scam I always get it on done deal and adverts.

  5. Dealing with shit like this feels like so much more effort to DoneDeal etc. I had a bramd newNintendo Switch I wanted to just get rid of for basically shoplifter prices locally because I needed some cash before I got set up with a bank account and everything here and the amount of haggling like it was an Indian spice market and requesting postage was ridiculous.

  6. With everyone saying it’s a scam I decided to have a bit of fun. Told them I’d be up in Dublin Saturday to do my Xmas shopping and I can go to drogheda ( as its near Dublin ) and drop of at their house. Save them the shipping costs. No reply yet..

  7. Scam. Sometimes I play along for the craic…Drogheda? Whereabouts? My aunt lives there I’m heading up at the weekend I can drop it off. Etc.
