Here, however, you have to take what’s offered, no special wishes, no way to let people know you are the one and only UELI, just numbers 1…999999, and they are auctioned for quite crazy prices.
Welcome to Switzerland 🙂
For some people it’s petty cash, if you can afford it why not (I personally don’t see the point at all but there you go)
It’s a way to flex. Some people have a fancy car and want to complete the look. Note that these are extreme examples. You can get your date of birth or something for a few hundreds.
ZH-987 ? Explanation please?
Edit : thanks, makes sense… I guess
Well its a money investment. It wont loose its worth
The initiative to raise taxes for the rich might have done better if they used this as their poster.
Nope. Why would I pay this much for something that doesnt even belong to me?
I paid 200 for a 5 digit plate, instead of getting a random 6 digit one. I feel it was worth it. Anything more than that? Nah
I never knew we had this. Not for me but if that’s how people want to spend it, fair enough. Far better than the awful vanity plates in other places, especially the alphanumeric rubbish in the UK.
Queen007 is up to get that social boost, anything not to be among the smelly peasants of Zug.
Low numbers on a plate? Come on…
[deleted]
Is this supposed to be cool? In the US you can make it any word you want and the price is only 40 bucks
Queens007 actually with two bids, there 🙈
I know the guy who bought BE 11 for 50k this year, he doesnt even own a car but thought it was a fun way to spend some of the immense cash he inherited. Initially it was a fun bid because he thought he wouldnt get it for 50k but he was wrong since it was the only bid. For him the 50k was worth it because he has a fun story to tell now.
The main question is if people pay wealth tax on that plate after lowering their cash pile by SFr 100k…
I was very happy to have a prime number for my six-digit ZH plate, at no extra cost from the desk in Zürich.
When you are truly rich then spending 150k on a license plate is like regular people spending 1500chf on a new TV.
If money doesnt matter… Why not
Isn’t SG-1 a fire truck? They are green however, is this the reason?
Could I register myself as a license plate, and then someone can pay me to ride around the back of their fancy car? (Been unemployed for a while, trying to get creative.)
Is something that only swiss people understand I guess, they find it fantastic to do something like that xd
Yes where is the website for those ?
How much did SG-1 sell for again? I thought I heard about it in r/Stargate
Never
Even if I had the money I wouldn’t because I don’t care about that at all. I’d rather spend that money on a car itself
BS 1
Yes I would. Because it would be a sign (here: plate) I have enough money to waste and already bought anything else I never can, despite earning not too bad – like a house. Zero chance, it’s a dream whuch will stay a dream.
some people obviously have just way to much money
for GR-1—>Greis würd i gläb scho chli öbbis ane brätsche wenn is gäld hätt
The original NFTs.
I wouldn’t mind having a 6-digits sum to spare for my licence plate. I don’t hate or envy those who do.
Well, I don’t need a short number to feel good! I would rather spend my money on traveling and good food 🙂
But everyone should do what is best for him/her.
It’s an investment. You buy the plates, you flex the car + plates, then you seem it on when it gets boring or someone makes you an interesting offer. They hold their value, much like art or wine or whiskey. Similarly, you typically do CG tax on it, but you’ll find most of the cars are registered under businesses anyway where the plate just counts as an asset for the business, often as a way to offset the depreciation of the car itself.
people are crazy… wtf
It’s the “Schnaebivergleich” how we say it here in St.Gallen.

While in Belgium you can have a vanity plate reading WATTMAN for 1,000€, 1,200€ in Denmark, 620€ in Sweden, 300€ in the UK. And ZG – 911 belongs to an old lady that doesn’t drive a Porsche, biggest flex. Also, in Basel Stadt, there is no auction and there’s a list with all available numbers (with different price tags). https://www.polizei.bs.ch/verkehr/motorfahrzeugkontrolle/fahrzeuge/schilder/wunschkontrollschilder.html

ZG 13 is on an average-looking white VW MK6.
