I lent my guitar to a friend for a gig in Whelan’s (Dublin) on Thursday. They had a load of gear and my guitar was unfortunately lost in the shuffle after the gig.. It was most likely left in a taxi but has not yet been handed in.

It’s likely been picked up by a non-musician so they may attempt to trade it in somewhere. I’m contacting guitar shops and keeping an eye on Adverts, Donedeal, Gumtree and Ebay.

Is there anywhere else I should be looking? Does Dublin do pawn shops? I know that Cash Converter was a thing but that appears to be gone.

Distinguishing features:

* F -hole cutout (it’s semi-hollow)
* Olympic White finish
* Tortoise shell pick guard
* Missing tone knob
* Maple neck
* Binding
* Pink strap

Model:2013 Fender American Deluxe Thinline Telecaster, Olympic White

The guitar holds tremendous sentimental value and I’m on a mission to get it back.

  1. Sorry for your loss, that’s pretty poor on your friend’s part though. I’ve done a lot of gigs and I can’t see how you could forget a guitar. I’d be lighting a fire under your friend to make sure they understand that *they* need to find it, it’s really not grand to just lose someone’s guitar, whatever its value.

    Cash converters is still around I think, or maybe they’re ‘cash connectors’ now, they’re actually fairly used to keeping an eye out for stolen stuff so worth ringing.

    Would it be possible to track down the taxi they took?

  2. Occasionally stolen goods pop up at car-boot sales. You can see a county-by-county list of them here: [https://collectireland.com/car-boot-sales/](https://collectireland.com/car-boot-sales/). Balbriggan and Tallaght have been known to have ‘hot’ goods for sale in the past. Please be aware, though, that often the traders don’t know goods are stolen. They’re likely sold on to them by private individuals that claim they own the products and are just looking for a sale.

  3. Are you on the Guitarist Ireland Facebook group? If not join there and put photos up and a description of the guitar, great bunch on there that will keep an eye out for you. Someone lost a Gibson years ago and it was spotted in some pub by a member (literally hanging up behind the bar as a decoration) and they eventually got it back. Even if you don’t have the serial its a pretty distinctive guitar so hopefully you’ll get it back.

  4. That “friend” needs to buy you a new one. If the other one shows up then ye can swap. Leaving it in a taxi is careless and completely avoidable. If im loaning a friends instrument im taking care of that thing like a child, not getting pissed and forgetting it in a taxi.

  5. That ”Friend” owes you a new guitar , or else they’re not a very good friend and you should cut ties

  6. Google is showing 3 CEX’ in Dublin.
    Try CEX the local guards and even the churchs parishes offices. Somebody may have found it and handed it in.

  7. Oh man that’s terrible. Sorry to hear if your loss..
    I am regularly trawling through online market places like adverts and Facebook market for guitar parts and I will make sure to keep an eye out for your guitar.
    It might also be worth while asking in music maker and other guitar large stores in case the taxi driver thought of handing it in, or at least asking them for advice, if they were any way decent. If not then they might just sit on it for a few months before attempting to offload it.
    I hope your friend feels suitable terrible and will help you out.
