What did David Lloyd George mean by ‘immediate and terrible war’?

  1. Interesting. I’m sure there was an element of bluff on both sides at that point – I remember being told in school that the Irish forces didn’t have much capacity (in the material sense) to keep on fighting around the time of the negotations.

    Equally, if George could have enacted this plan and kept Ireland entire – I don’t why he just didn’t do so.

    Think both sides were relatively done by that point, but I could be wrong.
