anyone from kannaksen lukio/ ib schools in finland , can you share you experiences thank you
Hey everyone. I am planning a trip to Levi at the end of November (23-29th).
We are a little bit worried that there is not enough snow/ice to get the real experience.
We want to do the typical things. For example:
– go skiing,
– snowscooter safari
– husky ride
– ice fishing
Is this possible during that period or is it too early?
Thank you!
On average, how long does it take Migri to process a blue card application (special expert entry)?
OP from /u/Harriv says to read the FAQ but I don’t see it in the side bar, am I quite stupid?
Hi everyone.
I’m living in Espoo. Is there anywhere I can clone my apartment key?
Thank you.
Hello,
I am preparing to apply to programs in Finland and was wondering if i can combine between both joint and separate applications. From what i know join applications are done through studyinfo portal, but it says that separate applications are done through the institution itself, so it seems like that i can do both.
Regarding programs labeled as Bachelor’s + Master’s, does that mean that its a continuous 5-6 years program, or just a bachelor’s program with an option for master’s ?
Hopefully my questions arent too silly, im still looking into the application process.
I will apply for International Business or a major related to economics – business, Bachelor’s Degree. Are there any universities you would suggest? (They can be UAS)
Hello,
I have a bachelor’s in Computer science, and wasn’t fond much of programming, so i am thinking of taking a bachelors in business administration, information technology. It seems like the right mix of IT and business. Would that be redundant or is a BBA in information technology degree is different enough from Computer science?
Hello everyone.
I recently started my master degree studies here in Finland and for my beginner’s finnish class I have to find a song (preferably in finnish) that describes the finnish culture (or at least some part of it).
Could you please suggest a few songs? It would be great if you also could provide an english translation.
Thank you!
what are some ways to reply to “kiitos”?
like in english we say things like “dont mention it” , ” its no big deal”
what words do finnish people use between themselves?
Hi everyone.
I want to buy a simple hair scissor and some hair sectioning clips (not hair clipper). Just checked out Prisma and couldn’t find any. Where could I buy those in Espoo?
Thank you so much!
Moi!
I’m an exchange student that’ll be here only for a couple of weeks. I like to keep active and engage in local activities. Is there anything like free yoga or dancing lessons by the municipality? I live in Pasila 🙂
Moi!
I am an exchange student in Aalto University in the upcoming spring and I know many finnish cycle to school/work etc. I would like to know if the area near Espoo/Aalto is safe for cycling when it’s snowy? Would the landscape in Espoo be tough to cyclists and where can I rent a bike with better-than-average quality? Thanks!
Hi everyone, as we are considering some options I wanted to ask for some advice.
We are a couple of EU citizens who are set on leaving the UK, as after Brexit it is not the best place to be as an EU citizen. We were thinking about Finland for some time, even started learning the language a little.
Now, my partner has specialist qualifications in the industry where most companies work in English anyway, so it should not be a problem for her to get a job (she has already been contacted by some headhunters after saying on LinkedIn that she could consider moving to Finland). It is a different story with me, as I do two things: I am a writer and translator and I drive trucks for a couple of day a week – I just like driving, I used to do it full time before I got more into writing, so now it is an extra income for me, and the way to keep hands on the pulse.
I tried to look for lorry driving jobs in Finland, but judging from the fact that all the ads are in Finnish I guess it’s mostly Finnish-speaking industry.
So what would be my chances to get a job with none-to-very-rudimentary-basic Finnish? I have over 15 years experience in driving heavy vehicles, European C+E with proffessional qualifications and an ADR (dangerous goods) training on the top of that, wide range of experience from construction through shop deliveries to international airfreight, and I also have some very peculiar experiences with delivering to the most remote areas of Scotland. It’s worth to mention as well, I guess, that I am not a stranger to winter driving (I am originally from the country where snow on the road is normal and does not end in the whole country being paralysed like in Britain – and due to that, when I worked for an international transport company in Scotland, I was deemed a “snow specialist” and regularly travelled to Norway and Switzerland in winter).
Our plan would be for her to get a good job and then we would move over and I would start looking for a job locally. With the rates in her industry one salary should be sufficient for us to survive (especially that I probably still can get some English language commissions for writing), but obviously I would want to get on my own feet as soon as possible.
So I would look for full time driving job, but I was also thinking about other option: is there something like driving agencies in Finland – agencies that provide spare drivers to companies to cover holidays or sickness of their regular drivers etc, where one could get a part-time job and spend the rest of the week bashing ahead with Finnish to get me at least to a communicative level ASAP? Or is it common for haulage companies to use part-time drivers?
Does it sound like a reasonable plan to you guys?

I am a dual citizen of Finland (US + FI) — I am traveling to Europe for the holidays and would like to obtain the EU Digital COVID Vaccine Passport. I received both vaccine doses in the US.
My partner, who is of French nationality, received both vaccine doses in US and was able to register and receive his.
I looked on the MyKanta website, but have been unable to find any updates on this. Does anyone know if it is available to US vaccines yet? They mention something about being available at “end of October”.
Kiitos!
Hi there,
I’ve been living in Finland for 1.5 year now, but I just recently started being employed by a Finnish company, so now I am able to join a trade union or unemployment fund.
However, I’m unsure what to join. As I understand it, the main benefit of joining a trade union, is that you’re part of the unemployment fund automatically. So you’re more secured if somehow you’d become unemployed.
But I also found that you can join an unemployment fund directly, which is much cheaper. I’ve seen one for ~€120 for a year, where for trade unions it’s 1-2% of your monthly salary.
What are other benefits from a trade union over an unemployment fund that would make it worth the higher cost?
Also, is there a list of trade unions in Finland? I haven’t been able to find anything yet. Also googling “trade union” doesn’t give me many good results.
I want to join something (either trade union or unemployment fund, whichever is smarter), but I’m just a bit lost now.

My profession is in IT. 🙂
Thanks for any help!
Finland is consistently at the top of the World Happiness Report year after year. Do you feel that this is true for you?
I will be visiting Finland for the first time and have no idea what I could see/do/eat.
I will be landing in Helsinki and heading straight to Lahti upon arrival. I will likely not have any time to visit Helsinki since i will come straight back to the airport on next Thursday. I will likely have a few hours to spare going back, so is there something interesting to do around the airport for a few hours or something to eat here?
I’ll be staying 3 nights in Lahti for work, do anyone have some good recommendation for places to eat and things to do in the afternoon/evening?
Is it really that difficult to get a job for qualified foreigners?
I am thinking of moving to Finland (from another country in Europe that I am from) to study a master’s degree in the field of engineering, and I keep hearing comments about how difficult it will be for me to find a job there when I finish my studies.
I would like to know your opinions and experiences in this regard.
Thanks in advance 🙂
Hey folks,
Just a very brief question. How quickly did you receive your residence permit card after positive decision? (assuming you are in Finland)
I have a work trip in just 2 weeks from now. Got the decision for extension yesterday and it was sent to manufacturing company.
In your personal experience, how long it took you to get this delivered to your home address?
Thinking if I should already rebook my flight or hope that it arrives faster then usual.

Christmas festivities in Helsinki? What are your favorite things to do? I’m an American student in Belgium and our winter/Christmas break is coming up in a little over a month. It’s also too expensive to just fly back to the US, especially since it’s holiday season + the US just fully opened up for vaccinated travelers. So I’m pretty much planning to stay in Europe. And instead of staying in Belgium, I want to stay in Finland for two or three weeks. Why? Early last week I spent 3 days in Finland (Helsinki) and I fucking loved it. And I had already made friends there too (albeit from dating apps). Had the best time ever there and I’m left with an awesome impression of Finland. I’m even hoping I can do my Erasmus exchange at the University of Helsinki (next fall, and I’m a masters student). The city’s huge too.
But anyway, I love it so much that I already want to go back and plan on spending a couple weeks there from mid-late December to the second week of January. What kind of Christmas festivities would be present in Helsinki? What do you guys like to do during the Christmas holidays?
I am travelling to Joensuu in February. I understand that it will be absolutely freezing at that time of year. Does anyone have any advice on a winter jacket that will keep me warm and dry while I’m there? My budget is preferably no more than £90/€100.
This is a jacket I have been considering. Will this be appropriate? https://www.superdry.com/mens/jackets/details/206743/ottoman-arctic-sd-windcheater-jacket-black
