Woman left ‘convulsing’ after falling on to live rails at London tube station

  1. I’m honestly surprised this doesn’t happen more often. When I used to commute in London, Moorgate was like Squid Game at rush hour.

  2. Reading between the lines really doesn’t sound like this woman is in a good way. Hope she survives without permanent disability, but…

  3. I commute everyday to/from Old Street, trains and platforms are so packed that I am surprised this doesn’t happen more often – still extremely sad to see so little investment in securing the platforms

  4. I’m wondering why a lack of staff on the platform has anything to do with it… When your platform is absolutely rammed with people, the solution isn’t ‘add more people’.

I think ‘wait for a train *without* shoving, like sensible people do’ would be the solution.

Also, why is a tube station utterly rammed at 1am anyway? That’s not usually rush hour.

  5. I was in the tube system during rush hour on a pair of crutches, on my way to hospital. Waiting on a platform rammed with people after 4 or so trains I am at the front. As the train rolls in the guy behind me kicks my left hand crutch out from underneath me while swiping my damaged leg, I hit the deck lucky not to get crushed between the platform and the train. The people on the train pour out over the top of me then all the people on the platform use me as a step to get in. At no point before, during or after did anyone try to help me. This is the tube and London culture in a nutshell for me.

  6. Drunk people being squeezed into a cramped space with live rails exposed doesn’t sound like a great mix. Turns out having a Victorian infrastructure isn’t ideal for health and safety.

  7. Jesus that sounds horrifying. I hope she pulls through however reading that smoke was coming out of her body makes me think she won’t make it.
