AITA? Bin-gate 2022. Was away for five days on a business trip and came back to this. Posted and everything, didn’t even just put it in the letterbox.

  1. To elaborate: I spoke to neighbors and I’m 100% confident that this is just one person. I’ve lived here years and have never heard of a RA, neither have my neighbors. Three of them have put their bins out the front in solidarity (including glass and organic waste bins)

  2. Unless the bins were left out blocking the footpath after collection, definitely not the asshole. Unless you received a list of “rules” from the residents association that included keeping bins at the rear of the property when you first moved to the estate, this is a non-issue. Plenty of us can empathise with having a nosey auld bat living on our street. We do have a residents association but there’s none of this nonsense out of them.

  6. Next summer, set yourself up in your front garden in a string vest, playing loud music and drinking cans, roaring t people walking by.

    That’ll give them something to complain about.

  7. Sounds like we need to figure out how to turn your house around. That I the only arrangement I can think of that ensure they are never at the front, but the bin men can still find them. Leave it to us, your arranging job is done; we’ll get back to you when we can do the necessary work.

Some people have no status or power in their lives, homes or communities – typically this type of underachiever weighs into things like resident associations, small town parish committees etc – they are completely insufferable at meetings and the worst of petty power mongers. They really just get off on thinking they have the authority to tell others what to do. Hire a skip – put it out front.

    If you didn’t agree to do anything, you aren’t obliged to do anything.

    If it was me (but I am particularly evil) I’d retaliate by forming a residents association. Take the power.

  21. Get up at 2am the day before bin day & drag that thundering bastard of a bin around the front so they’re aware of your compliance.

    Screaming “IT’S BIN DAY” at the top of your voice while doing it is an optional extra.

  23. We may never know which resident sent the letter. But we do know, that it was not Gerry Adams. He was not in the RA.

  31. I had a note in my letterbox for money to cut the grass and general upkeep. Ive been in the house 3 years and suddenly some randomer is demanding 50 euro. The letter says they have paid for the grass cutting already so i owe the RA money and failure to pay will be referred to the Sheriffs for collection. Ive found that they have a facebook group and tried to name and shame those who didn’t pay. I have no problem paying it but I’m messing with them. Ive demanded to see the accounting records and also an itemised account for where the €3600 the tidy town gives them a year for upkeep.

  33. Neighbours like that aren’t really worth interacting with. If they can’t even include a correspondence address just completely ignore it.

    If you respond at all you just give them power.

  36. They send an anonymous condescending letter, you get the anonymous condescending letter printed on a T-shirt and wear it proudly. It’s the natural order of things.

    But fuck that letter shite though. And the Estate group chats. I’ve seen the Gardai being called after death threats in one.

  40. My local RA tried to stop a Men’s Shed being built in the local park as it “would bring in people from outside the area”. The Men’s Shed has since been built and the sky hasn’t fallen.

  42. If you ever find the address you should send them a reply as the Provisional Resident’s Association!
