Seems like some people on here just turn their brain off once they hear “China”. This is just the sale of one old wafer fab, they are not selling the company. The fab uses ancient tech that has been around for nearly 30 years and Elmos expects the demand for these chips to decline. They are selling this fab because they want to focus on smaller nodes in the future.

• We are talking about a single wafer fab in Dortmund, not a company buys company situation.
• That wafer fab produces mostly outdated 350nm products for the automotive industry. Quote from en ELMO PDF: “The customer demand for 350nm ICs will decline in the medium and long term, as smaller node size products will be used in the future, mainly 180nm or 130nm, which can not be produced at the location in Dortmund”
• The company that buys the wafer fab is Silex Microsystems AB, a company based in Sweden, which is a subsidiary of a chinese company, Sai Microelectronics.
• Silex leases the clean room for 10 years plus a 10-year extension option, will invest in new products and MEMS technologies and expand capacities for new applications and customers at the Dortmund fab.
• Silex will acquire the wafer fabrication only. Elmos will continue to conduct all testing activities, both in-house and in cooperation with our external testing partners in East Asia.
So yeah, this only sounds bad if you read the headline.
I often ask myself if there’s a good reason for these deals besides corruption or stupidity. We’re just never going to learn.

This is just hilarious. Last year the German government ruled against a Taiwanese acquisition of Globalwafers because Taiwan “might be” taken over in China “at some point” in the future, but apparently China can buy whatever they want because why not 🤣🤣🤣
