  1. >Taoiseach Micheál Martin has rejected claims the Government failed to prepare for an influx of Ukrainian refugees that has resulted in some being told there is no accommodation for them.

I honestly don’t understand what other excuse there could be, was this planned for then?

    >He said that further accommodation was being sought for people arriving into the State in the coming days.

    Few more tents ordered

  2. They were told for months that we needed a cap, they knew for months we have feck all accom and still they were telling those poor people to come here, acting like there was no problem housing them. And now also the 9k plus non ukraines adding more pressure

  3. This should be enough to call for an election. The housing crisis has been ignored for well over a decade now, and now the people leaving a very real war are being dumped on the streets to fend for themselves due to government policy. They are delivering soundbites without actually delivering on the needed resources to back them up.

  4. A kleptocracy is a government of thieves (🇷🇺)

An autocracy is a government of autocrats (🇭🇺)

A democracy is a government of the people (🇺🇸)

An aristocracy is a government of the wealthy (🇬🇧)

A technocracy is a government of officials (🇮🇹)

A gerontocracy is a government of the elderly (🇨🇳)

Might we have achieved a record as the world’s only mongocracy?

  5. We took to arms because the government were treating the working class like shit and reneging on their promises in 1916. I know that is not the way to reform things now but a serious intervention is needed. These slimeballs need to be removed from office. Rather than emancipation of the Catholics we need emancipation of the working people in this country.

  6. We’re way too sound, people take advantage of that and politicians are no different. “Ah the Irish public will bend over backwards for a few months to help others in need”

The months have gone on and the emotions are running high. There’s very nice people saying things I couldn’t imagine before, they start questioning the validity of everyone of these people’s statuses. Looking at the imported cars , their jobs , the hotel services. I just hope we are not changing our ways and losing that sound attitude.

  7. I’m more surprised that people are actually surprised by this Langer’s & Lackies response. Surely the housing situation was enough to give you the hint. That this was not gonna go down well.

  8. What did people expect them to do? If they capped it at 20,000 or whatever cap they chose there would be plenty on this sub crying racism or xenophobia

  9. “everything is on the table” he says referring to possible solutions.

Well it’s too late to have things on the table. You’ve failed. Why have they let this entirely predictable failure occur?

If I spent all my energy in my work defending my mistakes when I failed rather than apologising and making amends I would be blacklisted among my colleagues and my career would stall.

I find this defence totally tone deaf.

  10. Ah this stage should we not just move out and let them stay in our houses… maybe we should all quit our jobs to, I mean it’s the right thing to do no?

  11. My personal opinion, which is probably conspiracy-theory level, is that they won’t start popping up villages of modular homes because it would give too many options for the Irish working class moving forward and would threaten the ability of landlords to exploit people.

Reading back on it, it does sound insane, but I guess that’s the level of faith I have in our government at this point.

  12. I just loved that this was announced on Friday, and instead of holding an emergency cabinet meeting at the weekend to give the illusion of action they just shrugged their shoulders and said its the weekend we’ll deal with this on Monday.

  13. Worst government in the history of the state and to think we’ve that unbearable Leo varadkar as leader from January, makes me sick

  14. Agin they can’t even organise school buses for children ~ but they invite 10s of thousands in the midst of a major housing emergency. 🤦‍♂️

  15. There’s a massive hotel between Naas and Newbridge that never opened. (Heard the owner built far farrrr more than was given planning permission for) and it seems like the perfect place to fix up. It’s been sitting there, a shocking waste, for years. Surely better than sleeping on the streets. Right beside a bus stop, too. Come on, Mehawl, put your thinking head on, Worzel.

  16. I work in a private Corporation and I have to say this is not unique to the IRish Government. Today it’s all about perception and spinning shit into gold. Everyone has to pretend, talk up and deny disaster is looming all so some guy who would cut your throat can get a promotion. Anyone with integrity tends to be hounded out. There are rare occasions where the brutal reality completely overwhelms the fantasy.

  17. Keep bringing them in by the millions,l want to see another 10 Million at least,my house will just keep going up and up and fucking up! My house( five bedroom in Clontarf) is now worth close to €900,000,I’m hoping it will hit the big €1,000,000 within the year please God. Let them sleep on the streets,we have piss mild winters compared to Ukraine, our winters are like Summer to them! But just get them into lreland and keep them here. Why not open Phoenix Park to house them? It could hold maybe a quarter of a Million people in there. Just get a few million more in because My house price is soaring by a thousand a week as I sit on my hole,it’s beautiful. FG policies have increased my house price by over half a million euros!!!!!! ( l bought my house for €340,000 in 2013!) THANK YOU FG,THANK YOU! God bless you Leo And Pascal, two beautiful men that l owe my retirement to. When my house hits the million ill let you all know, itl be a great day!
