Five months ago Darragh O’Brien seems to have just wanted some good press for the day as he announced that the Haps local authorities will be allowed to increase payment by up to 35% from 20%
Also that he wanted to expand the couples rate for HAP to single people.
None of these have happened and nothing was lined out in the budget.

  1. HAP payments raised the rents around 50% in my area. No one could have seen anything different happening as it was obvious this was going to happen with the lack of housing.

This was not accidental, it absolutely couldn’t have been.

  2. Competing with our own tax money for housing.
In my town even the smallest, studio shithole won’t go below €1200/month. That’s because HAP is set at €1200

This was even before the housing crisis was as bad as it is now.

  3. HAP was introduced with good intentions years ago as a temporary fix while government worked on adding more social housing. But rather than getting more stock added, All they kept doing was expanding scope of HAP and made the situation worst.

  4. He was on prime time the other week.saying hap limits will go up by the end of the year. It’s almost November. I’m about 1,000 or so over the limit. I get the fact that hap isn’t the solution but for me it’s the only hope I have of keeping my current place.
