Fair play to him now everyone else needs to get it.
Not a fan of this guy but he’s on the money here.
Most progressive minister for drugs we have had yet.
Good man….
Just a pity so few were in the Dail to actually hear it… ( I count 7)
As a recovering addict this actually made me tear up. Well said and hopefully he’s listened to. Shameful the way we treat drugs and addiction in Ireland. I know twitter is a wasteland, but the amount of replies to articles criticising use of the word druggies defending the word and attacking “junkies” was just horrible to see.
👏🏻👏🏻
meh I cant believe anything out of Labours mouth, they had power and bent over backwards to implement austerity on the very voters who elected them. They will say anything in opposition to get into power and then when they have it do fuck all to keep their promises. This is just more of the same from them, they cant be trusted.
Shame he didn’t do any of this when he was Minister of State with responsibility for the national drugs policy from 2015-2016.
Ah, he’s on the drugs again, sad to see but to be fair, he sounded sober enough.
The end of the speech was incredibly strong, it’s because they aren’t valued is the whole point. These people have a problem and locking people up for that problem isn’t going to solve anything. Even just thinking entirely cynically about it a person who is on the dole shooting up heroin is a burden, if you could get them off it they might be eventually useful members of society instead of a burden on the taxpayer and a strain on health services.
The drugs don’t work, they just make you worse, but I know I’ll see your face again
Maith thú Aodhán. I really really hope that this is listened to by as many people as possible.
This guy is forgetting that the pharmaceutical companies who run this island are terrified of competition of drug legalization will make less money if we do anything to change the systems in place
Great speech, fair play to him
Reddit blows hot and cold on this issue.
Nice speech, but….
Notice the fact theres like 10 people in the room.
This issue is not one which wins elections sadly.
Talk about drugs > fix housing crisis (I wonder how is that related…?).
Priorities.
Best regards,
Backwards kip when it comes to progressing drug policy. Too many grey haired worms in charge with zero ambition to change. Whoever shows interest in drug policy gets my vote 100%.
