Concerns over Athletics Ireland imposing new running levy on non-members

  1. One thing I’ve really lost intrest in is big organised runs/races. Used to do 4 or 5 HMs a year as well as a couple of ten mile events.

Post covid the prices seem to shoot up a bit, so decided to start giving them a miss. I could get up any given morning and run ten miles or a HM, just don’t see the sense in paying to run it!

On the price thing, afaik, DCM entry has gone up €20 from the last actual event in 2019 to this year.

  2. >Aimed in part at placing further value on club membership, Athletics Ireland have also stated that “all revenue generated from this initiative will directly support the delivery of our high-performance programme”, adding that “further fundraising initiatives are also being considered by the board to support the continued development of our sport”.

    And

    >Under the new agreement, Eventmaster will also charge a 4.5 per cent fee for each event registration above €14, plus a bank fee of 2 per cent, when previously other running registration companies had only been charging between 1-2 per cent. Eventmaster will also take a surcharge of 38c from each of the new €2 levy taken from non-members of Athletics Ireland.
