Good on him. Tired of Tories underfunding fucking everywhere then blaming everyone else for why it’s shit.
EDIT: Editing to add that comparing Wales NHS performance to England NHS performance isn’t a 1:1 comparison. Wales’ population is on average older and poorer, which are both metrics that affect how much someone needs to use the service and health outcomes.
It is important to note that comparing the two NHSs is a waste of time; Both services are performing poorly by any standard and what they have in common is being completely underfunded, while equally not having access to enough doctors, nurses, staff, etc.
There needs to be some serious funding into our healthcare, but unfortunately how much money the NHS gets in both countries is a decision that is made in Westminster. It may appear that Wales decides “how much is spent on NHS wales” but it’s an illusion of choice; If I was given £2 and asked to make a fancy meal, don’t be surprised if I’m only able to serve chips and curry sauce.
This man and his party have been running the Welsh NHS into the ground for 20 years. They manage it, they allocate the funding for it, and they have the tax varying powers to raise more for it, but all its woes are forever Westminster’s fault. I’m under no illusions about the dire state of the NHS in England, but please be assured that whether it’s GP appointments, operation waiting lists, or ambulance response times, somehow the Welsh Labour government have managed to make it even worse, and it’s not surprising to see Drakeford having this breakdown when confronted with the awful truth of the matter.
I lost a lot of respect for Drakeford after his behaviour towards the end of the Covid Pandemic.
He does seem angry in this speech, but I’d like to hear what Davies had to say that triggered him like this.
Absolutely loved the angry flip one way, and then straight back.
