They can not protect undersea cables with a ship that is not undersea.
At best they can hopelessly watch the cables being cut.

The Navy is so badly crewed and funded that they won’t be able to do anything else while this vessel is in the Irish Sea. We are an Island and there are also Internet cables on the other side that need to be watched. Irelands DF is simply too small and badly resourced to do anything at this stage after years of being under resourced. Neutrality is not an excuse.
Yeah more funding needed but I’m afraid it’s waaay to late. I’ve trained with a good few Navy people and last I heard they had all left. Skills aren’t there to be passed on any more.
Just taking the opportunity of talking about broadband/damages to the fiber. Anyone else noticed a terrible performance in online games? I can’t play Valorant anymore, too much lost packets makes the game unplayable. I’m using virgin fiber.

Can’t protect the cables, only repair them quickly, be better suited having a repirship close, which due to the limited number of there, isn’t possible. Subsea gets cut constantly, nothing new in that.
Its propaganda for something else.
We are members of the EU, UN and whilst not full members of NATO we have a relationship there and a bilateral one with the USA – were covered
Perfect example of why we need to stop acting like a baby nation and have a real military. Even if we wouldn’t have any chance or intention of taking on Russia directly, the very fact that we’d be capable of doing proper sonar scans and catching them in the act or scaring them off would help immensely,
But now all we can do is have some tiny patrol ship float around trying to look intimidating without even the ability to scan for submarines.
I would imagine given the importance of some of these cables to Europe as a whole there are British or US submarines in Irish waters right now.
Yeah folks were are right between the three naval powers of the planet in the US, UK and France. If they can’t protect the cables between them we have no chance
Our entire economy is based on the ability to do knowledge work and we do fuck all to secure it.
