We have a massive civil service. Surely someone can count the number of beds we have and then say “that’s how many we can take”. They’re not pouring over the border on foot, our government have to say “put X amount of flights” so why are they not doing basic due diligence. If for no other reason than it makes us look fucking thick and cruel.
As the Minister responsible for this, Roderick O’Gorman should resign. Or is nobody accountable?
Dublin is about to turn into complete shitshow in the coming years time to head west of Ireland
When or if will they say no more?
We aren’t racist and we don’t offend drug addicts shooting up on our streets, that’s all that matters
This government is so fucking shit it’s incredible. Don’t seem to care for anything other than keeping house prices high and claiming their pension/expenses.
I can throw a stone in this country and hit god only knows how many things that are dysfunctional or outright broken. Sometimes I genuinely think it’s a miracle the country is actually holding together.
Shocking form. I have seen a lot of hate being thrown at the refugee’s recently. But the lack of housing is not due to refugees its the rediculous government we have I wish people would remember that. Refugees particularly Ukrainians are to easily becoming the focus of the problems the government caused.
This whole thing wasn’t such as shit show in 2004 when nearly 100K Eastern Europeans arrived within a year. What changed?
I see there is a daily thread about Ukrainian refugees on a daily basis with the same set of comments. We are asking the Ukrainians to come here not just to show solidarity with Ukraine but to show solidarity with out eastern and Central European partners. Those countries have taken far more in terms of per capita. If we don’t show solidarity now then it won’t be available to us when we need it the next time. It is something you cannot buy but has to be earned.
Some of the refugees have to sleep rough few days but they will be accommodated in better facilities and they can live their life without the trauma of being in a war zone.
What a fucking shambles.
Just admit we can’t take anymore, that’s a lot better than having refugee’s sleeping rough when they arrive here.
No shame in saying we took what we can but have now over extended
Stop 👏taking 👏 in 👏 refugees 👏 we 👏 can’t 👏 house!
You would think this common sense
At one point, 70% of the refugees in CityWest weren’t Ukrainian and here we have Ukrainians, who we know are genuine, are going without shelter.
If we truly want to help Ukrainians and we’re not going to cap their numbers, we need to cap other refugees and better vet them – 40% of asylum seekers arriving in Dublin this year arrived without documentation. Genuine refugees don’t destroy documentation; people lying about their age or origin do
This government need goin
Why let so many in if we don’t have room?
Perhaps deport the thousands that are here illegally and taking up space, and be more strict on those coming in without documents and are single men. Why are we taking in men from countries like Algeria?
Focus the resources on women and children.
How are they eating hot meals?
If we let more in they can just sleep on top of each other.
WE MUST SAVE UKRAINE BY LETTING IT BE DEMOLISHED!
I don’t understand how a batch of 30 single men are even arriving from Ukraine. They must be coming from another country. In fairness, I’d say with, for example, Poland having so many it’s probably a shit show so why wouldn’t you come here?
And that’s assuming they haven’t just destroyed their passports and said they’re Ukrainian, and the media and department happy to report it as such. Which wouldn’t surprise me at all at this stage.
I’ve worked with these people, I’ve engaged with the services. There is zero plan. This was always coming
Government polices like this can never fail, they can only be failed. We just didn’t rise to the occasion, we’ll try harder next time.
If I was in there shoes I would go door to door in a commerce area and ask for a job.
“Mr Heydon said he understood that 33 Ukrainian men were processed at Citywest but were unable to be accommodated last night.”
Avoiding military duty in Ukraine while Irish man are volunteering and going to Ukraine. And then we have Ukrainian men coming to Ireland and trying to take any benefit they can. Oh no you had to sleep in a airport? Well we have Irish people sleeping rough for years.
These people who came yesterday are clearly playing the system, they didn’t come from Ukraine so obviously they came from a 3rd country most likely somewhere in Eastern Europe. Then they decided to try their luck in a richer European country like Ireland.
Many of the Ukrainian refugees in Ireland are clearly economic refugees and are playing the system.
The war started 9 months ago, where have these people been since 9 months?
We call out refugees and asylum seekers from other countries and say how do they pass through other European countries which are safe and then end up in Ireland and claim asylum here. We call them economic migrants. But yet we don’t acknowledge that Ukrainians have a lot of economic migrants too who are doing the same.
There has to be a system in place where we’re allowed to ask questions to Ukrainians coming here.
Some questions would be
“why have you only arrived in Ireland 9 months after the war has started?”
“How did you get to Ireland?” (Asking what country they came from or countries they passed through to get here)
“Why have you came to Ireland after passing through countless safe countries?”
“Do you have any ties or family in Ireland?”
Those questions aren’t very difficult questions and allow the officer to assess the situation.
My theory is that those 33 guys first went to Poland separately and stayed for 9 months and then became friends and then they all couldn’t find work in Poland or Germany, so they had a look at other European countries and then decided to come to Ireland in the hopes of finding work and earning a higher salary.
I mean I would probably do the same if I was in their position but it’s to the government to close those loopholes otherwise people will take advantage. Let’s be honest if those guys were Syrian the reaction would be completely different.
How many people have to go homeless so that Micheal Martin and Darragh O’Brien can still look good enough to get plum EU jobs when their terms are done ?

Seems sustainable
