Recipes! [update] Thanks to everyone who suggested me things that actual Finnish people cook. I tried 4 new things 🙂

  1. That makaroonilaatikko looks great! It’s got a lot more cheese than a traditional one but that’s probably a good thing tbh

  2. They all look familiar, yet different 😀 Good start 🙂

Makaroonilaatikko: next time try gouda or edam on top. Don’t know if you used actual cheddar or “cheese slices” but we usually reserve those for burgers and stuff.

Nakkikastike: sauce to rest ratio is off. Needs more sauce. Like double that. But I bet it still tasted really good! 🙂

Chicken and noodles and veg: Not super traditional here but that looks super good! I’ve definitely ordered a lot of dishes like this from local asian restaurants though! 😀

Oven roast: they all need more time in the oven. Especially the bacon. Also that bacon looks more like canadian british bacon, am I right? We don’t reallty use those in Finland. We use [very thin and fattier (american-style?) bacon](https://i.imgur.com/7yjGMEX.png)

  3. Maybe you like your egg fried that way. But if you heat up the pan first to a higher temperature before you put the oil and the eggs, you would get a crispy bottom and a juicy top. Just a suggestion, the pictures look delicious.

  4. Instead of the no. 3, a more traditional Finnish dish would be a bastardization of risotto, which is really closer to fried rice, but without the creaminess of eggs (or cheese of actual risotto)

400 g honey marinated chicken strips OR ground beef

Some rice, cooked in chicken or veggie stock if you are feeling fancy or pay day was less than a week ago

Bag or two (200-400 g) of frozen pea-corn-paprika (herne-maissi-paprika aka hemapa)

Curry powder, especially if you used chicken

Other seasoning salt, pepper, maybe paprika powder, allspice goes nicely here

Pretty much just cook meat and rice (1 part rice, 2 parts water, don’t use fancy rice (no risotto, basmati, or jasmine rice)), add hemapa to rice when the water has mostly evaporated, wait for the Peas to warm up and mix all together. You can microwave the hemapa before adding if you think its too cold.

  5. I dont recognise any of these as finnish food, to be completely honest. Even that makaronilaatikko is more of a variation of Mac n cheese.

  6. I dont recognise these dishes other than makaronilaatikko as finnish food but good for you 😂. (My fault probably)

  7. I do a lot of experimentation with makaronilaatikko. Substituting meat with tuna or chicken is one of my favorites. I often try out different spices and cheese. Also mixing ketchup into it before putting it in the oven makes it so good.
