I never understood smart motorways, the people who came up with it obviously had pros and cons etc, but I never got the point.
I haven’t seen enough boards actually informing drivers of breakdowns, just that the speed has lowered, and if it was done to protect breakdowns why not just…leave the hard shoulder?
Lorries straddling two lanes, everyone going 50MPH knowing if they break down they’re stranded with oncoming traffic right at them.
Having emergency areas is great, but sometimes your car will just conk out and you can’t make it to them.
Motorways are the safest roads, so why drastically change the system so much.
There are people smarter than me, more specialised decided to make them, but from my POV I just don’t get it
