  1. Good to see they put a steely eyed modern politician in Sir Jacobian on the case.

One hope is that this odious throwback of a charlatan finally gets his marching orders from whoever is next in the hotseat.

What’s more, considering he touts himself as a very successful businessman, I can’t think of a Tory who I’d trust less than him.

Fully expecting Tata and Jingseye to pull out in the coming days.

  2. If only the Conservatives had done their jobs perhaps Brexit wouldn’t be the failure it is, and the economy would be stronger

  3. > The government confirmed on Monday it had entered discussions with Tata Steel, owner of the UK’s largest steelworks in Port Talbot, south Wales, and Jingye Group, which bought British Steel out of insolvency in 2020.

    > The Chinese company has agreed to maintain its current operations and job numbers as talks get under way, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) said.

    > The exact sum Jingye Group is asking for is not known but insiders previously indicated to Sky News that a potential bailout could run into the “hundreds of millions”.

    > Tata Steel has previously called for financial help and wants £1.5bn in subsidies.

This going to be great, isn’t it.

  4. But JRM claims “Booming Brexit Britain” is heading for the sunlit uplands.

Tata should be told to get on their unicorn and just believe in Britain harder.

  5. Don’t worry, in my opinion Hunt is certainly asking his wife to have a word with Xi Jinping to help move our steel industry to China.

  6. For as long as I can remember these industries have needed bailing out. I wonder if a government back scheme to provide different industries/careers in the area rather than giving billions to overseas companies would be the better way to go

  7. How much employment in the UK is related to steel production? It’s in the news a lot but I can’t imagine there are actually that many people employed working steel are there?

It’s more of a strategic thing? Other industries die and you don’t see politicians begging them to stay.. what am I missing?

  8. British Steelmakers: we need a support package from government to remain open and keep British jobs, we are struggling to compete against global competition

Jacob Rees- Mogg: Have you considered using Imperial measurments.

  9. Jesus. Soon as he walks on the floor he will be chastising them for not stopping working to take off their hard hats and greet him properly as one of their betters.

  10. God imagine a steel union rep trying to communicate with that Edwardian pencil of a human being. I would pay to see that.

  11. You’re just about to see your company go down the drain, but it gets worse! Look who’s just arrived in his Victorian hearse
