    And if they did, you’d be taking the euro. Id place bets on that. Scotland would probably be a net receiver from them as well. Countries like Germany, France aint gonna be happy about that.

  4. Economically, Scots independence makes absolutely no short or mid-term sense.

    But then at least they will be masters in their own house and not have to pay taxes to fund crazy Tory policies like Brexit, foisted upon them against their will.

    Int he long term, the economics can be made to work – and faster than it did in Ireland.

    Dont worry nationalists well still go along and claim their politicians wont be lying to their faces or working against them the whole time.

    The parallels between the claims for brexit;Scottish indeodnance; Welsh independance etc etc are all the exact same nonsense that never translates to reality

    Splitting up countries or unions is a long drawn out affair that has always been messy throughout all of history and it’s always been the regular people that suffer immensely while those at the top secure their own power further

    You will need a passport obviously, and no way in hell EU lets you come in without adopting the Euro

  10. A hard border is very likely should Scotland leave the UK as they will be obliged to sign up to Schengen should they wish to join the EU. They will also be required to join the Euro in the long term so a Scottish pound would only be a temporary thing.

  13. How about work permits? Why would you want to leave United Kingdom which is one of the most successful nations and stable economies of all the time? There might be issues but there is no example on the Earth where things are working flawlessly.

    You don’t like conditions you have in Scotland? Come here in England or Wales, N. Ireland without any paper works. Being completely independent nation or switching to the Republic is not going to solve your problems, you might actually have worse conditions than you had in the UK.

    It’s all vibes. It’s Brexit on steroids and won’t deliver improvement for Scottish people. Unfortunately the current government keeps giving her ammunition but Scottish independence won’t solve any problems

  17. Unbelievably really that this is just the same nonsense we got around brexit. The grass is greener and we have a solution for all the difficult questions and would you look at that, the answer makes us all richer! How wonderful.

    The reality of independence would be brutal. They have very little negotiating power with the UK. Similar to how the UK didn’t have enough leverage to get a good deal from the EU.

  20. I live on the Scottish border, with family across the border, and have worked with many people who cross the border to England for their career. Easy to forget for people who live far away from the border but those of us who don’t, will bear the brunt of any enforced border on both sides. I’m hoping people take these issues into account should there be a future referendum.

    I hope Scottish people vote with their brains on this one, and realise that all of this cloud cuckoo land garble she’s coming out with will be VERY different when put into action, should the independence vote go through.

  24. Sturgeon’s promises are great news for the Union, no right-minded person could believe this power-crazed fantasist and her ramblings about currency and borders.

    If she is allowed another vote on Scottish independence she will lose again, wether that vote be tomorrow, next month, or next year. She believes, rather foolishly, that she has a mandate for independence because a certain percentage of people vote SNP, what she doesn’t realise is that many SNP voters do not actually want independence, they just can’t, or won’t, vote Tory or Labour in the current political climate.

    Shameful that she is pushing this nonsense yet again when so many people are struggling, if she ever did get her way Scotland would never recover.
