Maybe police thought it is a civil matter, as they do with anything they are not bothered to look into.
TL;DR Because it was a serious and complex case, and departments are underfunded and under-resourced.
Because the Tory government has been slashing the police and courts budget for years now in the names of austerity, to the point we have a near three year minimum for trials on any crimes.
Meaning we’ve got less investigations, less police officers, less courts, more criminals slipping through the nets, less monitoring, overcrowded prisons with people waiting for their court dates, more dangerous criminals out on the streets cause we can’t hold them etc.
But hey people love low taxes when you don’t pay for the services, so what can you do?
B-because it was a complex case that needed a thorough investigation?… a case that took a typical amount of time to create enough evidence for a charge? That was hampered by not only budget cuts to the police, but, a spate of crime over that period?
The fuck is this article title? Its so baity even for Guardian standards, whats OP trying to say?
Well two years of that was COVID, and every element of the CJS was even more fucked than it usually is, and if you take that out… Thats fairly normal for the insane amount of work expected of the police for such a serious charge nowadays
Is rgphe answer that the police involved first had to clear their hard drives of child porn?
