I read that Finland closed the border to Russia, which I understand, I mean, security reasons (I’m from Sweden and there’s been some incidents here). At the same time, is closing the border the best thing to do? I mean, some of the men forced back to Putin will then do what he says, and attack Ukraine?
**What happens, if instead it becomes simpler for** ***more*** **Russian men to flee?**
Then, logically, to get enough soldiers, Putin would need to turn even more fanatic with his mobilization? He’ll be forced to go after men in the bigger cities — and they are already getting worried, and staying away \[1\] \[2\]. In that way, Putin would make himself and the war more and more notorious, and making fewer and fewer men willing to attack (instead of hiding or fleeing)? And hopefully this would be a step towards an end to the war?
But to where are the men going to flee, if they cannot stay in Europe? (security risk)
**What if Finland, Sweden, the EU make deals with countries in South America, and help the Russian men flee to there?**
Let’s say 100 000 men from Russia want to flee and are ok with staying in South America. That wouldn’t be many, if distributed across the larger cities — there’s 400 *million* people in South America. And if the EU pays for food and places to stay, then, the men would be a source of income for the locals, I mean, something positive? Actually doing this, could cost just about 0.1% of the US’ and EU’s yearly military spending. \[3\]
Can you imagine more bang for the buck? Removing that many of Putin’s would-have-been soldiers, for such a low cost. (And it’s also, I think, the right thing to do, in the sense that we’d be helping people (the Russian men) flee from a war.)
What are ways to make this actually happen? Contact your politicians and write to the newspapers? Other ideas? — And what are your general thoughts about this?
(Just to anyone who thought that those forced to return to Putin, would do a revolution: That is, unfortunately, unrealistic. Russia is a police state: Your neighbors can turn you in, there’re surveillance cameras, there’s Internet surveillance. Putin has still somewhat much popular support (because of him controlling and manipulating the media) and he controls the military. It’s not always possible to do a revolution, and today’s surveillance systems and tech make it harder. — What the men do, instead of a revolution, is that they flee, hide, or get mobilized, or in some cases commit suicide \[4\].)

The US + EU military spending is 1 000 billions.\[4\] [https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/15/my-son-has-died-russia-mourns-loss-of-first-drafted-soldiers-in-ukraine](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/15/my-son-has-died-russia-mourns-loss-of-first-drafted-soldiers-in-ukraine)

I have one question. Why would any South American country take 100 000 Russian citizens?
You’re living in a fantasy land.
Then Russia will invade with the excuse of “oh there’s so many ethnic Russians there”.
No
Sounds pretty expensive. We’re already spending a lot on aid to Ukraine and on replenishing our own stockpiles, not to mention the economic situation and our increasing budget deficit. Didn’t we learn from paying Turkey to deal with the refugees? Paying other countries to deal with this problem isn’t cheap, not to mention the risks of Finland and other Nordic countries becoming routes of transit for Russian military-age men coming in on quick notice.
I think it would be better if we would get all the minorities away and let the ethnic russians die in the war. Putin would be overthrown in a heartbeat
100 000 people would still not affect the war machine but would be a logistical nightmare. Would you easily find 100 000 people wanting to move to a country with not much opportunities?
you all don’t need for anybody in your own country, for what you are need for some European country? in critical case Finland like other countries can defend itself with it own forces, without too difficult and strange actions, how your discribed.
Btw i think it would be better for the russians just surrender when they go to Ukraine. They are actually mobilised and the would bring equipment to the ukranians
>I mean, some of the men forced back to Putin will then do what he says, and attack Ukraine?
What makes you think they would suddenly be motivated soldiers wanting to attack Ukraine?

An unmotivated, poorly trained, poorly equiped and poorly performing Russian soldier is the best thing for Ukraine. They can’t perform ordered tasks, they cannot be given any responsibility anywhere in the battlefield, they spread their unmotivation among other troops and so on. At best, they will turn their arms against their commanders, at worst they will get HIMARSed to oblivion.
Like they could get over Russian side anyway. Your math is way too simple and ignores every other part. This seems ridiculous. Removing that pile doesn’t change anything either
Also. What happens after that year then?
Let them stay in Russia or die in Ukraine.
Least idiotic swedish
These “men” don’t want to go to south america because russians are rasist as fuck. They want to stay in europe. If they don’t want to go to war its time for them to protest and do a revolution.
After “I’m from sweden” I already knew this one was gonna be hilarious
