Asylum seekers set to leave Santry hotel ‘worried’ they will end up in tents

  1. In fairness, it is true that instability, especially during an asylum claim, is daunting, part of the issue though is that these asylum claimants have incredibly low acceptance rates. In 2017, the EU Member State with the highest rate of asylum applicants from Sierra Leone was Germany, the refusal rate for Sierra Leoneans in Germany was 75%. Similarly, the refusal rate in Ireland for Zimbabweans is 80%. Pre-war, Russians had higher EU asylum acceptance rates than Sierra Leoneans and Zimbabweans.

Obviously these people are applying for asylum and theoretically they are assumed to be genuine, in practical terms though, the majority are economic migrants. It is important to add that they may well be unaware that they are ineligible for international protection, they may well be of the assumption that they are genuine asylum claimants, the truth is though and this will be difficult for NGOs to read, that the majority are far from refugees as defined by International and European law – the Irish Government is responsible for communicating that through policy and it has completely failed in that respect.

  2. It’s a joke innit folks, we have 10k + of our own homeless, and the arseholes spend millions on housing people that are obviously playing us. I just don’t get it.

  3. If the route has no direct flight to Ireland they should be returned to the last country and so on until asylum provided

It’s clearly asylum tourism for those and the ones who destroy passports
It’s amazing the facial scanners other places routinely use cannot be used to ID these people

  4. As former social democrat candidate and illegal immigrant ellie kysombe once said “its almost impossible to get asylum in Ireland without lies”

  5. I was at a small grocery shop that caters to specific cuisines and overheard a few guys chatting over a smoke outside. One of them was given the phone by another guy who asked him to explain the process. He goes on as follows.

” Hey man, it’s easier for you in Ireland. They speak English here , so you won’t have to learn a more difficult European language. They are going to get you an accomodation and even some basic living cost if you are claiming asylum. Why are you wasting time there trying to get into UK ? You can’t get an easy life in France. Just send me your details and I will fix you up with a travel arrangement to get here. Your cousin will tell you about the rates. You can be here in a week ”

people who come to work through the legal channels are spending almost a year filling out forms, proving we have the means to support ourselves, that we will return back to our home country. But the process is so simple for these guys who are talking about this as if it’s a tourism deal.

When the country is having a hard time supporting its own citizens , does it really make sense to have such an open asylum policy ?it’s like getting into debt to buy a better car just to impress a neighbor.

Before anyone says I’m anti refugee or racists, I am a legal immigrant who jumped through all the hoops and followed all the rules to work in the healthcare sector here..
