Germany is a priority tourism market for Bulgaria. Before the Corona crisis, more than a million German guests visited our country, rich in natural and cultural treasures and with 400 km of golden sandy beaches, mountains for skiing and hiking opportunities.
In summer and in the ski season, many guests came from neighboring countries. Luckily also after May 2020 with the leaders in Romanian and Greek tourists. Bulgaria is and has always been a haven in Europe for vacationers who want to relax without restrictions. Measures to ensure the safety of vacationers work and are observed, the situation is monitored in real time and updated if necessary.
The ideal combination of relaxation, fun and safety makes Bulgaria a particularly attractive travel destination. Another argument in favor of traveling to Bulgaria is that the services here are still affordable, which makes holidays fun.
Since there are many new flight connections and the price-performance ratio is an important argument when making a booking decision, we hope for a great season.
The travel motivation of the German guests to Bulgaria is unbeatable. The interest and popularity of the Black Sea coast with many large hotel complexes and new investments, water park attractions, sports facilities and with a colorful nightlife. There are still many secrets to be discovered, such as the newly renovated or even ultra-modern, elegant new buildings in the 5 star segment with their own thermal springs and large SPA landscapes, excellent health and wellness offers and sports areas, both spring and safety measures of vacationers work and are respected, the situation is monitored in real time and updated if necessary.
I’m sure those who get to know Bulgaria outside of the high season will have very pleasant surprises.
What are you particularly proud of and what was on your agenda when you recently visited Germany?
Bulgaria’s wealth of cultural and historical sights that will hopefully be visited and appreciated by more guests. Our country is second only to Iceland for mineral springs and thermal water.
The Bulgarian SPA Association has concluded an agreement with the German Health Insurance Association and we are striving to make this health offer even better known to health insurance companies and health tourists. These topics were also discussed during my visit to Germany a few weeks ago with Claudia Müller, the federal government’s commissioner for tourism.Part of the program of our delegation was the round table with representatives of the tourism industry in Germany, where we presented the campaign of the Ministry of Tourism – which is running on the TV stations of RTL, VOX, NTV and NITRO – and have further talks about cooperation with German tour operators took place.
The tourism industry is interested in the possibilities of a combined product in Bulgaria – the combination of two or more forms of tourism, which is quite feasible in our country.
Rediscovering Bulgaria as a green and sustainable destination?
There are new cultural and pilgrimage routes in Europe, such as the Sultanweg for hiking and cycling. The founding idea comes from a mountain village in the Rodophe mountain. Guaranteed authentic Bulgaria can be experienced here with nature, culture, the best cuisine and a lot of tradition.
Young people are looking for adrenaline and that’s what you can find on the coast when sea kayaking, where endurance is also required.
Sea breezes, the pleasant scorching sun and waves make sea kayaking what it is – a challenging but liberating experience while observing the spectacular coastal scenery.
When in the Kaliakra area, one should try the deliciously prepared, fresh, ecologically clean Black Sea mussels grown there on a long day of exercise.A boat trip on the Kamchia River on the northern Black Sea coast offers an extraordinary experience and is remembered as an adventure of a summer vacation. Experience emotion as the boats sail between lian plants, majestic trees, murky water and feel like sitting down like a hero in a movie – this boat trip is relaxing and energizing.
What is your personal goal to make Bulgaria an attractive travel destination in Germany over the next few years?
My personal concern is to make more recreational opportunities in Bulgaria known – not only the beautiful coastal landscape with more and more attractive and quality facilities and attractions on the Black Sea, but also the mountains for hiking, skiing, healing mineral waters and active tourism in an intact environment with one of the largest spruce forests in Europe, as well as the Thracian cultural treasures and from the Byzantine period.
The tasty food, a country as fruit and vegetable garden of Europe offers many flavors and of course excellent wines for gourmet guests. The navigable Danube stretch still has a lot of potential for nature lovers and water lovers, cruise guests.Tourist safety is one of the basic factors that I would like to highlight, which perfectly complements the stay of German tourists in Bulgaria. We are actively working to establish Bulgaria as the preferred year-round travel destination in the Balkans – a safe and peaceful place for new experiences and vacations.
