Strike while the irons hot… Alot has changed in the past 6 months.
Whether it be outlook on the war, personal circumstances due to the recession and general cost of living increases. You can’t expect people’s circumstances not to change in the that time.
Predictable. There was this kind of thing during Live Aid, people vowing to make massive donations but failing to phone them in. People can get caught up in intense emotional waves, intending with every fibre of their being to be of some help in the crisis. Then it sort of fizzles out when daily life had taken over again.
Colleague in work had an apartment that the tenant(s) left, he offered it up for refugees and didn’t hear anything for months even with his partner trying to contact them to see if would still be of use.
After it being in idle limbo with no contact for a few months he said fuck it and put it back up for rent, and has no intention of using it for refugees because of dealing with whatever shit show organisation is involved.
A lot of people went through unofficial channels eg. Facebook groups to find refugees to house privately rather than waiting months for the Irish red cross to maybe get back to them
I have offered through unofficial and official channels a double room in rural Mayo. Was not even once contacted 🤷♀️ I would assume because it’s, well, rural, but then again they put refugees in a very (!) rural hotel that didn’t match the things they ask for in private accomodations (public transport connection, fast broadband, etc) so there’s that 🤷♀️
*local authorities blame the public for their own ineptitude.
I know someone who offered a house he has and no one has ever been in touch about it.
Why in Gods name would anyone take a stranger who doesnt even speak English into their home!??? Are they nuts? I have a five bedroom house and every room belongs to me and the Cat,he gets 1 room and l get the choice of 4 to sleep in. Sometimes l flick a coin to see which one l prefer that particular night. I despise people with a vengeance so l just cannot conceive of someone voluntarily giving up their personal space to Strangers! Insanity.
