Is it (and if yes how can it be) allowed to make so much noise in the middle of the night? They’ve been cutting metal (tram tracks possibly) the whole night long here in Boxhagener Str. In Berlin. I WANNA SLEEEEP, it’s 02:25!! D:

  1. When something like that happens in my neighborhood i usually get a letter before telling me when this kind of work is happening.

  2. Normally this isn’t allowed, but if the work is really necessary/urgent and it’s either “stop public transport for a day” or “noisily work through one night” there can be offical exceptions.

  3. Yes, there are situations where it is allowed, although it is strictly controlled. In this case, they are performing maintenance work on a critical part of the public transport infrastructure. They could do that during the day, of course, but that means re-routing a lot of trams, blocking the roads and putting on replacement buses (increasing the amount of road traffic), possibly creating traffic jams and even gridlock situations.

  4. Yes they’re allowed. The company I‘ll work at puts notifications on the doors of people in the area that could be disturbed by the noise. It’s mostly done to don’t block traffic at the day and only in rare cases. On normal repairs the road gets closed and the workers do their jobs on the day.

  5. They are stealing the Tracks to sell off the metal. Call the police. /S

But seriously in cases like that you can call the Bürgertelefon der Polizei Berlin (030) 4664-4664. They will either tell you if it’s legal or send the police to stop the noise.

  6. I really dont understand these posts. Does OP think these workers are out there in the middle of the night for fun? They are doing it because it HAS to be done, and doing it during the day would cause a hell of a lot more disruptions. If you want to live in the city with close access to public transport, then 1 or 2 nights of noise every few years is the price you pay.

  7. Such things only happen when it’s absolutely necessary and believe me – if it wouldn’t be allowed – police would come and end it because I am quite certain someone called them and complained.

Worst situation I had was a problem with the gas pipe. They needed to check it and for this they opened the road with a jackhammer at 1am. But better than blowing up the whole street I guess.

  8. Bro in my street they feking broke down a building and the whole street started shaking like there was an earthquake and it didn’t stop until 6pm lol. (They started at 7 am)

  9. I see you’re integrating well here! Still feel sorry for your loss of sleep

Now get a Rechtsschutzversicherung and start suing people and moan about Nachtruhe, Mülltrennung and the Deutsche Bahn.

^(dude, if you plan to stay in Friedrichshain, you need to get some earplugs- once tourists come back here construction noise will be the least of your problems…)

  10. They mustnhave special permission from the city. Looks like public transport. I have train tracks behind my house and I witnessed the same thing.

  11. You can usually call the Ordnungsamt or the police. They either send someone to make them stop or if they are allowed to do it, nothing will happen.

  12. Well, yes if it is required. Most things that require work at such a time are significantly more important than the small inconvinience some have. Especially considering that those people would instantly complain about the problem not being fixed right at the start of the day. E.g comming too late for work due to missing trams because damaged tracks.

  13. Thought you were writing about Hannover because its been the same here for the last two weeks. I’m a sleep-deprived wreck. I got a letter by DB in the mail though informing me about the construction 2 weeks before the start. Yesteday we were informed that it’s not going to plan and will take 3 weeks longer…Also, no S-Bahn for all this time. Double-whammy.
