‘Thousands of lost or stolen cats could be reunited with their owners every year under plans to make microchipping compulsory by law.’
The conspiracy nutters were right again.
This is NWO! Mircochip = 666 mark of the beast!
*’First they came for the cats, and I did not speak out*
*Because I was not a cat.’*
Do they give an official reason for this? (sorry, im not willing to subject myself to the disaster that the indies website has become)…
I don’t see why the government would care about reuniting pets and owners, seems an odd thing to legislate.
While it won’t be the official reason, I wonder if the insurance industry are keen on it, possibly to reduce fraud?
But are they ok to poop, wee and leave dead birds in neighbouring gardens?
Great. Any responsible cat owner will already have their cats microchipped. Both mine are.
Good. Everyone should have their pets chipped anyway.
They should also be charged an extra tax for the shit their cats dump everywhere. As a dog owner if I’m caught not cleaning up after my pet I get fined.
Cat owners obviously do not clean up their cats shit as they wander about, they should be taxed on it!
It should be a requirement for all cats outside to have a collar adornment which alerts birds to their presence.
The cat in the photo is the spit of my ginger tom who, incidentally, is chipped because I brought him with me when I moved back home after living abroad.
I once nearly rehomed next door’s cat when they went away on holiday and this strange cat started living in my garden. We trapped him and put a note around his neck as a paper collar then waited a few days. No one took it off, so we caught him again and brought him to Cat’s Protection. They checked the chip and it was registered to an address miles away from us with a mobile number that didn’t work.
They wouldn’t let us keep him, so we left him there. After another few days, our neighbours come home and text us to find out if we’ve seen their cat…
My boy is chipped. How else would he unlock the cat flap?!
Do get the vet to check pre-existing microchips. One of my cats microchips didn’t ping the scanner when it was checked last time, so it either grew out or was a dud microchip.
Can we add “and to stop them shitting in other people’s property” please?
Also why aren’t pet microchips scannable by our phones?
Stop putting proprietary shit in our pets and forcing us to waste time getting vets to scan them when we could be doing it with our own phones! Don’t necessarily have to give up personal information, just let an app ping a central service which could alert their owner with some kind of message.
Domestic cats shouldn’t be allowed to roam around killing wildlife in the first place.
I totally misread that as “Cat owners obliged by law to be microchipped” and thought it was an Onion article… :-p
Looks like we will have a cat uprising soon about their rights being violated and taking away their freedoms
I’d go one step further and have the government offer free chipping but not just chipping gps microchipping that will allow the cats owner to be able to track them within 5 miles.
Because fuck knows my old tom used to go on quite the walk i know this because he tracked me down while i was fishing.
Our cat escaped from our friends when they were cat sitting while we were on holiday.
It then disappeared.
**Two years later** having moved house half way across the county we get a call to say our cat has been found. She was pretty feral by this point after having to fend for herself all that time but she remembered us!!! And within a few weeks she was back to her amazing self. It was like brilliant, like the plot of a channel 5 Christmas film.
Less than 2 months after she was reunited with us she was horrifically crippled after some posh twat in her Range Rover hit our cat at over 70mph on the 30mph stretch of road through our village.

What a fucking rollercoaster that was.
Love and miss you Rosie.
