Here is the [article](https://www.expats.cz/czech-news/article/debt-forgiveness-period-offers-a-helping-hand-to-foreigners-in-prague) about debt forgiveness.

I just want to know if it’s possible for this program to Forgive Health Insurance debt.
A friend of mine got hit with a really bad case because they didn’t pay their’s and they got an execution for it. The thing is they didn’t even use the health insurance, just missed their payments.

  1. Ask the insurance company. Generaly it’s for when you owe the state/city and it all proceeded to ” soudní exekutor” according to “exekuční řád”, not debts you owe to other institutions or what can they manage themselves according to other laws. But for example VZP allegedly did find a way to be part of the program, so ask the company.

  2. It should be even for health insurance. The problem is with “penále”(interests) as they have specific regulation compared to normal civil law interests which are accessory to the original debt. So it is not clear how insurance companies will approach it. So far VZP confirmed that they will forgive penále if the missing payments are settled.

  3. Health Insurance is not really insurance in the Czech Republic, it’s a monthly tax. It doesn’t matter they didn’t use it, they were essentially dodging taxes.

Been there, done that (twice). Not a great situation, I’ll tell you that.
