Today I received a call which by all definitions sounds like a scam.
The premise of the call was that the Govt. recently announced a decrease to the health insurance premium from next year. I don’t know whether they were referring to this. ([link](https://www.admin.ch/gov/fr/accueil/documentation/communiques.msg-id-85284.html)). They were willing to help me calculate the reduction I will have for free. They are helping everyone in Switzerland be informed about the reduction for free. I wish more such kind souls exist in the world.
But what concerned me the most was that they had all my details. They knew my name. My date of birth and even my address. I am curious on how these people can get access to such personal information.

Just a question. Who is your basic insurance company? Mine is KTP and my details has been leaked as well.
They buy it. Likely, from the very health insurance companies they’re shilling for.
Works like this:
ScamCo asks medical insurance Co for data. Lawyers double check that this data can be sold based on agreements the customers sign with the company. Lawyers give the green light, medical insurance company sells client data to the ScamCo.
In parallel, ScamCo is doing the same with other Medical Insurance Companies. So, the medical insurance companies strike a deal with the ScamCo – if they convince customers of other medical insurance company’s to switch over, ScamCo gets a commission.
They call everybody and only earn money if you buy an insurance. No matter where you are insured, they try to convince you to a switch.
Not really a “scam” per se. They just want you to switch to a different company because they probably earn a commission. They might up-sell you or whatever but (at least normally) they are actually selling a legitimate product (health insurance from some company).
Obviously never actually take their offer, they don’t have YOUR interest at heart. But I wouldn’t call it a scam
Assura checking in, also got a call sounding like this. I hung up almost immediately.
About that link, very interesting but 100% correct. Not involved in health insurance anymore but at least up to the last 2, 3 years health insurers had ridiculous amounts of reserves. The Geschäftsplan of them is purposefully ambiguous to allow it. And I can well imagine that covid showed that even a serious pandemic doesn’t require that many. That’s just a guess though, I don’t know the actual numbers.
Use the App on your Mobile. “Soll ich Annehmen” can Help u Block this Numbers
I’ve had loads of calls over the last few months claiming to be something related to health insurance, I just assume it’s some sort of scam or garbage marketing scheme. I’ve never given them enough time on the line to see what personal data they might have on me, and they have called my work phone number as well as my personal phone, so I assumed they were just dialling every number they could find. My reaction when I get a call along those lines now, when they ask if I would mind answering a few questions is to tell them that I charge a CHF100 consultation fee for answering questions, do they agree to pay. Strangely they never do.
Government tackling the rising costs of health insurance?
That right there is all the evidence you need that its dodgy
Noone ever calls you to help you with anything or to give you anything. If they tell you that, it’s a lie and you can/should hang up immediately.
Don’t talk to commercial phone call : Simply ask them : You are required by law to remove my coordinates (name, phone) from your database on my request : Do it now and give me your company name and your name.
