Can anyone recognize this spider? It was on my wall inside in the morning and it’s still there walking around the wall same as of my beds. Is it dangerous? I just recently money to Zürich. Thanks!

  1. Its a common house spider here, not dangerous or venonous. They will freak out and drop off the wall if you try to touch them and are fast motherfuckers. Just put a glass over it, slip a paper below and place it somewhere else. They are damn fine predators, though, so please dont hurt them. One of them once cleaned out a damn wasp nest in my room, a sight to behold. I usually just let them mind their own business, they want to avoid you, too.

They wont hurt you, I take them out of my bathtub fairly regularly and you can take them out by hand no problem. IF they bite, it stings a bit, but nothing major and nothing to worry about.

  2. I believe there are no harmful spiders native to Europe.

Although now and then a huge tropical spider lifts on a banana transport.

  3. Oh, it‘s Freddy… he escaped from my home. Silly boy always manages to find a way out cncncncn. Dont worry he wont bite.

  4. Don’t let them lie to you. While this spider is not venomous it is in fact a highly sophisticated Bünzli observation device. /s

  5. Typical household spider in CH. They look menacing because they’re hairy and can grow to be quite huge, but as others have mentioned they’re both harmless and excellent hunters.

  6. It’s a house spider. Harmless to people, they are usually pretty shy and lurk in corners in places like cellars and eat annoying bugs. They are also remarkably fast if they want to be. From the looks of it, that’s a male. Around this time of year the males head out looking for love. If he’s bothering you, poke a stick in his general direction and he’ll go hide somewhere (for a while at least). If you really don’t want him around, do the glass-and-card thing and put him back in the cellar or somewhere like that.

  7. That is *Zoropsis spinimana*, a false wolf spider or Nosferatu-Spinne in German.

    Harmless like all Swiss spiders.

/r/spiders is the better place for spider IDs in the future.

  8. They‘re not dangerous until they fall into your shoe and bite you while you’re walking to your nearest tram station.

    Edit: grammar
