Rishi Sunak is the UK’s next leader. Here’s what he doesn’t want you to know

  1. He’s probably not that keen on you seeing his [voting record](https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/25428/rishi_sunak/richmond_%28yorks%29/votes):

Voted for reforming the NHS so GPs buy services on behalf of their patients [this was the mechanism by which US healthcare companies were to control GP purchasing decisions in the 2012 Health and Social Care Act]

Almost always voted against UK membership of the EU

Generally voted against measures to prevent climate change

Almost always voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits

Consistently voted for reducing capital gains tax

Generally voted against more powers for local councils

Generally voted for reducing central government funding of local government

Generally voted for reducing the rate of corporation tax

Oh, and he also voted against making rental properties[ fit for human habitation](https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201516/cmhansrd/cm160112/debtext/160112-0003.htm)

  2. And let’s not forget that as someone who had a US Green Card (until he was effectively forced to give it up) he had committed to taking up US citizenship and moving there. Hardly a sign of a man who’s committed to *this* country.

  3. Dont forget all the fraudulent covid contracts he wrote off. I can’t remember the exact number but i have 47 billion in my head.

We could use some of that to pay for heating bills 😒

  4. Most of this seems to relate to his personal wealth and privileged background none of which is exactly a secret – it’s l not like he was running a business under an alter ego (like Grant Shapps).

I’m not that bothered if he’s got a bit of money – would hopefully make him less likely to do favours for his mates (like Bojo used to do) as he doesn’t exactly need the cash.

  5. How many days are we giving it before the country is in a far worse state than it is now? 4? 5? Maybe even a whole week before we are doomed further into the pit?

  6. I’m disturbed by the press pretending this is someone who wasn’t chancellor for over 2 1/2 years who oversaw/exasperated many of the current issues.

The Rishi was proven right argument is absurd by sections of the press. Kwasi may attempted to jump off the cliff, Sunak helped drive us to the cliff in the first place.

  7. That he’s going to try trickle down under a different name because let’s be honest that’s really the only plan they have they don’t really know how to do anything else

  8. Hold on, before truss people on this sub were banging on about how Sunak would be better as he is competent. They got what they wanted, a posh privileged tory who worked in finance and hates the poor as much as any other tory.

  9. Rishi Sunak would of been the better of the two in the last choice between him and lizz, she was clearly used as a way to make a quick buck before having to face the music so to speak. In regards economy wise there is not a smarter choice. If my man here has £700million in the bank and married to someone of influence in India then i can see the great Indian company getting up and running but in the other direction. I would say hes your man to tap into the Indian market.

Regardless of who is in power now im afraid its going to be a big shit sandwhich and we all have to take a bite. I dont vote myself but my beliefs are what i would say are left. My hope is Mr Sunak makes bank for the uk and if we make good trade with India.

Me personally believes India would prefer a labour government and would invest in the uk with the interest of growing rather than bleeding it dry.

Some interesting times ahead regardless, the small man like myself would be smart (in my opinion) to learn how to cater for an Indian market.

    Just writing cause im bored.

  10. Reminder he worked at Goldman Sachs too. Makes you wonder where his interests are. Also a man worth 750M wants a job paying 100k. Hmm

  11. “trounced by Liz Truss just weeks ago is now the favourite to replace her.”

Fails to mention they really wanted Boris back but he was too lazy to take it up again

  12. Absolutely. Looking forward to the first white Indian Prime Minister as the next step towards equality

  13. I’m pretty sure he won’t last, I just hope that it turns into a GE and we get a different party who isn’t looking to destroy one of the few things we can be proud of, the NHS.

  14. Nothing wrong with him going to Private Schools.
His a business man who has been successful.
You free to learn how he got there.

  15. Shit we’re doomed .One after another looking after the rich guy.Has the proletariat been ghosted? The ones that literally ensure the country runs ,ensures profits for the fatcats ,. I feel we are being stripped of our usefulness then thrown on a pile to rot .Low wages , high rents/mortgages food etc which I get isn’t all government controlled…but the low wages for near 2 decades are .So I predict (like you all )a harder austerity rule till at least the top earn back what truss lost them ,then some more .

  16. >tax justice campaigners have warned.

Would that be “The Taxpayers Alliance” of 55 Tufton Street who along with the rest of their little lobbying network funded by the Koch brothers. Had major members in the form of Liz Truss and Kamikaze.

  17. He’s the new leader probably for a couple of years at the most we seem to be doing with PM’s what we’ve been doing with chancellors
