Two of the six criteria affecting the ranking are:
>the youngest age at which puberty blockers may be prescribed; and the youngest age for access to hormones.
I’m all for people living their life 110% to whoever they feel and persue whatever avenues they need to feel comfortable in their own body’s.
Never however, will I agree with the use of puberty blockers.
The govt. here recently has stopped funding to the trans NGO over repeated bad accounting and not showing where all the cash is going
I’m someone who thinks Stella O Malley the psychotherapist has a lot to answer for for this in Ireland. I’m really surprised she’s still receiving media invitations

OP could you copy and paste the article, it’s behind a paywall, best to have the availability of the full article
Pennies also have reversed their controversial unisex changing room polices after repeated outcry’s by women and attempted assaults on women in the changing rooms
Our health system is crap generally – transgender people are getting equally crappy treatment as everyone else
That’s a balls up.
It kind of makes me grateful that I grew up in the 90s, before the world went bat shit crazy and governments, local authorities and health bodies etc went bending over backwards and ignoring reality to placate trans lobbyist groups and NGOs.
Just to clarify, I am not hating on any individual, group. Healthcare is complex and everyone has their own cross to carry. I mean the entire healthcare system is fucked, waiting lists have never been higher and I have no doubt that a lot of people are dying needlessly because they are not getting seen to in time.
Would EU bodies not be better off calling out the whole health system rather than just one aspect of it?

Hahahahahaha, worse than Croatia or Romania? I can’t even find trans healthcare here…
So puberty causes mental distress and being transgender is not a psychiatric condition…….. oh! and gender is caused by socialisation. Affectation dear boy … or girl..,affectation
embarrassing
I’m not trans, but I’m old enough to remember the same “think of the children” hand wringing over the gays.
It just seems like such an overreaction. Trans folks are already such a tiny subset of the population, the vitriol and passion that people rage on about it feels surreal to me.
Fat people seem to invoke a similar energy. What is it about other people’s bodies that seem to rustle people jimmies so much?
People going down the usual gender argument route are kind of missing the point here.
Regardless of what you think of trans issues broadly, it’s a fact that trans people exist. It’s a fact that they have particular healthcare needs. And it’s a fact that not having those needs met results in _extremely_ bad outcomes for them.
And yet according to this report they could be waiting 2.5 – 10 years to see a specialist, just as the headline problem in the care offered to them.
The story here isn’t whatever agenda bullshit people are trying to hawk, bringing up unisex changing rooms and other irrelevant horseshit. It’s vulnerable people receiving extremely poor healthcare.
>The six criteria used are the type of trans healthcare and coverage available in the country; whether there is requirement for a psychiatric diagnosis before hormonal treatment or surgery; waiting time for first appointment with a trans healthcare professional; whether groups are excluded or made to wait longer to access trans-specific healthcare; the youngest age at which puberty blockers may be prescribed; and the youngest age for access to hormones.
I’m genuinely curious as to whether requiring a psychiatric diagnosis before hormonal treatment or surgery would score a country positively or negatively on this. I would hope requiring it is seen as a positive thing.
Waiting times in the country are shite for everything unfortunately, the less life threatening your prognosis, the longer your wait times are likely to be, it’s not an issue exclusive to trans healthcare.
I’m delighted that we score negatively on the puberty blockers and hormone treatment for children. I’ll stand by that 100%
Ah shur look.
Nah I’m joking. There’s countries in the EU that do not agree with LGBTQ anything I mean surely we’re not as bad as them.

I tried to talk to my gp about gender stuff and she didn’t have a clue I wasn’t looking for anything other than getting in touch with a specialist in that area just to talk but I won’t lie it felt incredibly disheartening not being able to get any answers
I’m genuinely curious about gender affirmation and gender as opposed to sex.
Personally I’m pretty laissez-faire when it comes to people and their own bodies but being Laissez-faire doesn’t mean I’m not curious about the practical, legal implications and semantics of it all.
I apologise in advance if any of my questions offend they are not meant to I’m just not up to date with all the correct lingo.
I could be wrong but based on what I’ve read a core Tennant of gender affirmation (I think that is the correct term?) is that gender=/=sex.
My first question (not meant as a gotcha just a question), if gender =/= sex then wouldnt any drugs or surgeries to prevent the growth of or remove physical features associated with biological sex be cosmetic and not actually necessary as gender =/= sex?
My second question has to do with words, are boy/girl or man/woman words that identify sex or gender?
Third question (or multiple questions),
What are the rules for dating?
Do they have to say for example “I’m a man but I’m biologically female”, if they dont and for example engage in hanky panky with someone biologically male who identifies as a man and is gay would the withholding of that information invalidate the consent of the partner? Or only in cases where the partner explicitly stated beforehand they only wish to date biologically male individuals?
Fourth question,
How does it work for married couples?
If one spouse suddenly decided to affirm as a different gender is that grounds for legal annulment? Personally if my partner still loved me I wouldn’t care but I’d imagine for some people this is a deal breaker.
Final question,
I’ve seen this crop up in sports a lot, should all sports just be made unisex? Or is their a more equitable solution for all?
Well done 👍
Newsflash. Healthcare is shit for everyone in Ireland.
> “In Ireland, the system is bogged down by waiting times of over seven years to see a healthcare professional.”
It’s probably not just this health issue. System is fucked because it’s designed to effectively enhance private care and hospitals over public health services

I guess that means the 12 trans people in Ireland will need to go to England for their op….sheesh

We probably have one of the worst for non transgender healthcare in the EU as well. Let’s not confuse incompetence with bigotry.
I could even hypothesise that Ireland is the worst for healthcare in EU…. For everybody
Typical r/ireland. Complaining about culture stuff coming from America then falling straight into the trans culture war nonsense
Well, at least we have housing in Ireland..
Trans healthcare is a joke. My friend has been out since he was 14 and trying to get blockers/hormones since about 15. He is now nearly 22 and he is only starting hormones this month.
Look at child healthcare particularly psychological care . It’s non Existent
Considering as a trans women I and many other transgender people need to seek health care support from the UK, Irish healthcare is an absolute disgrace in the pathologizing of trans people.
Trans healthcare should be consent based similarly to the UK and many other EU member states, not seven year waiting lists for a 3-hour meeting by someone who barely knows you or your circumstance.
Ah no
With so much being blamed on Covid, (wasn’t Covid a thing in these other countries also?!?), there must be a major plan for financial, structural and cultural change ahead for our health services.
I’m not holding my breath…
All of our healthcare is awful- only have to look at the recent youth mental health scandal to know that
How is this even possibly true considering that Eastern europe exists?
Like fuck me, places like Hungary and Romania exist, they hardly think trans people are people let alone provide them with healthcare ffs lmao.
Define transgender healthcare, then we can talk.
Doesn’t matter what gender you are, healthcare is crap across the board unfortunately
Do they do one of those for womens health also. I bet it would get about the same score. It takes about the same time time to see an Endometriosis specialist.
