Anybody got experience with Total Energies? Came out cheapest, but the difference is so much I wonder if there’s a catch

  1. I did exactly the same. Their rate is 50% cheaper… than what I currently have.
I get my cashback at luminus if I stay 1 more month so will probably do that.

    I too wonder what’s up here 😀

  2. I changed to them a few months ago.since we have solar panels and almost neutral home, tried to lower the monthly costs… which is impossible via app and a nightmare to arrange. I’ll be moving away from them next month

  3. Thinking of switching atm to engie or luminus, also wondering about what’s up with Total energies.
Leaving mega and need to cover another 3 or 4 months until we move, im up for suggestions here..

  4. It’s just hearsay but apparently they have a terrible customer service, which is a common catch in cheaper service providers.

  5. When I do this the difference is less then 100 euros. Must have been a glitch.

Regular Pixel is 200 euro cheaper then comfy flex that I have but I get 500kwh free gas and 250 kwh elec (10% of my gas and 15% of my total elec) after a year so I’m better of sticking with luminus for now.

  6. In august totalenergies changed my monthly from 260 to 850. As far as i understood they did the lost a lot of customers around that time. Probably made them lower their prices drastically.
Personally i don’t have faith in that company anymore.

  7. Here is the part that no one sees: the contracts at TE have nothing fixed. Not even the price formula. They can literally do with the price what they want if they send a quick notification mail.

Here are the types of contracts:

    – fixed: pretty obvious, not many left though. Fixed price for a fixed time.
    – variable: one year contract with a fixed price formula for that year. So your price will be based on an index as stated on the fiche. Contract will be extended after a year but the formula might be changed at that time.
    – contract onbepaalde duur (TE Pixel): they do whatever they want based on whatever they feel like.

So yeah, they probably lure in everyone with the low price, raise the prices, know no one will do something about it, have massive profits.

On the V-test: open the details of the contract and check ‘prijszekerheid’. They will explain the same as I did.

  8. It’s a variable contract calculated on the average price of this month for the next 12 months. Other providers in that list might have not updated their prices yet or work with bi monthly or tri monthly prices.

Doesn’t mean that it’s at 3500 per year that it won’t end up higher or lower because the actual cost of your variable is contract is only revealed at the end with your yearly regularisation bill when they weigh your average price at the start of the contract with the actual monthly average prices.

  9. I have a contract with TotalEnergies. Customer service is horrible. And that’s an understatement. Only chat, in broken Dutch at best and when you complain, they tell you you are too aggressive and disconnect the chat.
In april they changed my contract to a fixed without ever sending a notice.

  10. Brooo, don’t don’t don’t. I was with them for approx 9 months. Never again. They are fine for as long as you don’t have any problems. But the minute you need a problem solved the shitstorm will begin and it won’t stop.

  11. I had Total Energies for a while. They increased the prices by 400% in 6 months. I’ve now dropped them and my provider is Engie, seems to be cheaper so far.

  12. They charge much higher monthly fees, and when you get money back they pretty much delay the year end calculation as long as they can.
Mine was supposed to come in March, it didn’t came until I decided to cancel my contract in October!
I am now waiting for my exit bill, I expect to get thousands EUR back from a way go high fee.
I felt like I am a free loan provider to them.

I will never go back to them again.

  13. Check the details. They used to have this fishy contract that made you guess your consumption for a year. Every kWh above that consumption had a penalty cost, everything below that consumption wasn’t payed back and kept for your next invoice. It could be this one… Also the difference is so big that I don’t buy it. Where’s Engie Direct in this? It should be the cheapest

  14. I moved away from them because other where cheaper for my situation.

Customer service sucks, even their billing is sometimes incorrect which is a huge pain.
Their online platform sucks as well, changing my monthly fee was impossible due to technical errors on the site.

    I would never return.

I’m now at Eneco which is great and at least can change my monthly fee without issues.

  15. a colleague of mine had a trouble with them. They used wrong start dates and wanted to change he contract one sided to get them to fix their mistake. And on top of that pay for 3 months extra due to the wrong start date. They solely said that she had to change her fixed contract to a variable one. Their customer service took them about 4/5 months to change the dates.

i would advise against them just from this situation.

  16. Don’t ever use variable, you’ll only get profit in the short run, however in the long run you’ll lose out.

  17. I have it’s just part of total … so I guess that’s how it’s able to offer those prices … I had no real complaints tbh. But be willing to deal with virtual costumer service so not great.

  18. At the end of the year on a fixed contract is someone supposed to come out and read the electricity meter to bill the extra? I just recently discovered I’ve barely paid for any electricity as our moving company set it up and the rate was estimated on the last year when the house was empty.

  19. I used this price comparator (or maybe an equivalent, not sure) and it gave me something like 230€/m with TotalEnergies, the cheapest option. So I selected them and 230€ was indeed the price that this provider offered when I signed my contract with them. However, when the first invoice (accompte) came, they asked me 540€/m!

My advice: Do not trust these comparators, check the official rates of the energy providers and select the one that suits you best. Then re-evaluate every month and do not fear to change regularly, it’s a very simple operation nowadays.

  20. Ehm, that comparison is straight bullshit mate.
They are among ‘the cheapest’ but the difference is only a few €10’s at best.
‘Happy’ customer here, they took over Lampiris a while back and I don’t have any complaints. It’s also a massive company so no need to worry about bankruptcy. Some people claim the customer service is shit (wich is the case with almost every company, no?) but tbh, I never need them. With Lampiris I even had the ‘online’ contract wich means you pay less but don’t have access to customer service. If problems occur, 9/10 it will be Fluvius that needs contacting.

  21. It depends if you want cheap price and services or pay double to have little less cheap services. I’d rather pay 1800 and wait 2 months if over charged than pay 3000 and wait 1 months after being overcharged…

  22. Not all suppliers have provided their prices for November yet(because of the holiday probably). So you are comparing the October prices from some of them to November’s prices of others, November should be a little bit lower.

  23. When calculated?

Its change of month with high difference for all that calculated their rate on previous month. So if they are the only ones whos priceupdate is already picked up snd others not could explain the high difference (do the test again on friday and you’ll know)

Off course the on monthly basis calculated will have a higher variability than those that use previous quarter as basis for their cslculation (although it still updats per month).
Basically ttfdah price goes down: better of with monthly, ttfdag price goes up: better on quarter.
This month is the first situation

  24. 1. Makes profit off the Russian war by still selling to them and so prolonging the war
    2. French owned, not Belgian
    3. Terrible customer service

    There’s the catch
