How do Czechs feel about “Czechia”? I don’t know why, but it sounds wrong to me, almost derogatory.
I don’t see why are some Czechs opposed to it, nor why did *”The Czech Republic”* even became the main form.
*”Czechia”* perfectly matches original form *”Česko”* and other Slavic variants – *”Češka”* in Croatian.
*”The Republic”* part is presumed and is no different than all the other names of European states which also have the republic in full official name, but to use it so strictly is just weird.
Republic of Croatia, Slovak Republic, Republic of Poland are still republics even when we call them just Croatia, Slovakia and Poland.
In Finnish it has always been ‘Tsekki’ so no biggie for us 🤷♂️
About time
You guys changed ur name without being bullied into it?
Somebody is very eager to get rid of the “republic” part.
Republic, aka res publica, old latin phrase meaning public affair, apparently reminds people that they should be the one running the state, not the state running them.

I like Czech Republic better.
Czechia and Chechnya are too similar.
