Given the economic predicament he’ll be inheriting, it’s important to manage expectations.
Admit I’m looking forward to Labour winning power, and seeing partisan political reddit turn contortions to justify them doing more or less exactly the same as the tories did.
Sure. But I hope we’re not going all guns-blazing austerity under Labour. Particularly since when we did that in the early 2010’s and justified it by saying we needed to recover from the economic crisis, then all the countries that increased spending recovered faster than the UK did.
Government investments has been proven to work repeatedly, and people *expect* Labour to be at least a wee-bit higher on taxes and spending.
It would be irresponsible to do otherwise. I would like to see some more long term investment like nationalising energy.
It’s almost like Labour doesn’t want to be in power again, ever.
Listening to starmer lately is disheartening. Hes already laying this ground work of expectation. All hes saying to me is “yoire gonna get more of the same really, suck it up. No I wont be helping the NHS either.”
Obviously, you need to wait 2 years before the next election!
Most people seem to think you can pass laws in a week and fix things, too many times politicians take credit for laws passed before they started and it messes with peoples perceptions.
We need to remember big changes are required and it takes time to do it, the Tories have done a lot of damage in the last 12 years, labour can’t just reverse it in 6 months.
The sheer damage control they’ll need to do before even improving the situation slightly is immense. The Tories have done 50 years worth of damage in 12 years. It’s wild.
