Defending Ukraine: US must offer military support not just economic threats

  1. “The concept of operations should delineate what types of capabilities would be required to help Ukraine establish an effective defense. The United States would be in a supporting role — consistent with the administration’s desire to avoid “direct use of American military forces”–with the combat role being taken by Ukraine forces. As part of the congressional action noted above, Congress should also ensure that the United States had the necessary authorizations and funding required to build up and sustain Ukrainian military inventories. While an actual operational plan would await Defense Department analysis, certain elements seem likely to be included:

    * Buildup and sustainment of Ukraine weapons inventories
    * Logistical support, both with respect to weaponry but also to other requirements that might arise in the event of an invasion
    * Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, as critical to force disposition, targeting and defense
    * Command, control and communications support
    * Cybersecurity, to enhance resilience of Ukraine military and critical infrastructure networks
    * Air defense including Stinger missiles to Ukraine and perhaps U.S.-operated Patriot (or other allied) batteries to protect rear areas including allied supporting forces
    * Counter electronic warfare”

  2. This is basically saying that we want to bleed the Ukrainians for the next 10-years.

    Maybe I’m going out on a limb here with crazy talk, but what if the US allowed Kiev to negotiate with their fellow Ukrainians to end the civil war? The Minsk Agreement, signed by both Kiev and the rebels, is a pathway to peace. The Germans endorse it, the French endorse it, the Russians endorse it and the UN endorses it. Why not give it a shot? If no constitutional settlement can be reached, then the sides can return to shooting at each other.

  3. >It is, of course, not clear whether Russia’s prospective actions would involve the entirely of Ukraine or be limited to the Donbas

    It’s clear that Russian actions won’t be limited to Donbas.

  4. For a long time western media writes about ‘Russian invasion’ and troops near border. Ukraine writes about their will to defend the country. At the same time asking the west to provide troops. One question – where are Ukrainian forces ? Why don’t we see news that Ukraine has placed all its military in eastern part to defend from advancing Russian army ? If they are so sure about invasion, maybe they should prepare somehow ?

  5. who knew that encircling russia and slap ABM’s around them will result on the bear biting back?

    im trully shocked also suprised pikachu face.exe
