Jimmy Carr and being the stupidest are two concepts that have never been apart.
I don’t fully agree with the article.
I think making light of Hitler is a good thing. Ridiculing a fascist leader depowers them more than treating him like an unapproachable shadow over your left hand. A boogeyman is more attractive to wannabe fascists than a clown (I said “more”. I know Donald Trump fans exist).
Now, I would be more careful with the Holocaust and dilluding it, but Hitler the person? I think he should be mocked. I think his art was okay and functional, and in any case it has nothing to do with the actual shit he was is responsible for, but that’s also why you can make fun about it without diminishing what that man did to Europe.
I can’t read the whole article, but the author seems to be suggesting that Carr is unfit to host this program… that feels a bit harsh. His behaviour has never reached the depths of Rolf Harris et al.
I’m unlikely to watch the program, but it is at least exploring an interesting moral conundrum, albeit in an undoubtedly dumbed-down and facile format.
Sounds like an absolute brain fart of an idea for a show.
Honestly who cares, no one’s gonna watch this show, and Jimmy Carr is a shit comedian.
The way he just stands in one spot and parrots his stale 1-liners, occasionally telling a heckler “I fucked your mum hehehe”.
Comedian who made his career from controversy and Channel 4 is working with Channel 4 to make something controversial?
I’m shocked, shocked I tell you.
I hate that Jimmy Carr got a free pass for tax dodging. I know the nation has forgiven worse, but I’m not interested in what-aboutism. Carr gets paid very handsomely for a job that is ultimately quite inconsequential, and yet he thought he was above chipping into the pot. I guess the older I get, the more I hate the wealthy deciding that enough is never enough, while the poor people mostly pay their way.
This show is Jimmy Carr all over. A tired idea that’s relying on shock value.
>It’s just regurgitating an argument that rages on a daily basis
well yeah, that’s the point surely? I might well watch it as the discussion could be interesting, I lean toward Oscar Wilde’s view at the moment, and extend it to art in general.
“There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book, books are well written or badly written. That is all.”
Ah is he still trying to be funny?
You;ll get there one day Jimmy i believ in you!
I used to rate his stand up. Sadly, he seems to be going a bit John Cleese trying to stay relevant.

Just about the concept of what Carr is doing, I don’t like it. What that painting means now is very different to what it will mean in 1000 years. The job of museums is to take this sort of stuff and preserve it so that future generations can use it as a way of interpreting and understanding the past. What Jimmy and his hammer does is rob them of that opportunity. Lots of horrendous rulers in history created art of one kind or another. It would be smarter to burn Henry VIII‘s lute.
It’s worth remembering that Hitler is both extremely cancelled and extremely recent. There are people still alive that have spoken to him. You can’t have his first name or his facial hair (both very common beforehand). Unless you’re a far far right nutjob, this isn’t really challenging anyone or anything. There’s really nothing to be gained by this. It doesn’t seem like a clever or nuanced take to me so I struggle to see what’s funny about it.
Maybe he should gift it to Meloni as a congratulations instead.
