Absolutely yes. Biggest no brainer on the planet. Inexpensive devices with lithium batteries, electronic waste, and plastic…and they are fucking EVERYWHERE on the floor where I live it is so stupid.
Its incredibly simple to just get a reusable vape for god sake. I do not understand how people can be so lazy and wasteful.
Please God, yes. The discarded shells are everywhere, and it’s getting worse than the metal nitrous casings.
As someone who vapes everyday it is very simple these day to get a setup which is re usable and much less wasteful. Add to that a lot of these disposable vapes are marketed to and bought by kids then it seems like a no brainer.
Yes, 100%. It’s a waste of lithium and plastic. You can’t even argue the case of it being more simple when you can buy vapes that use a pod system so you can keep using your own device.
I work at the head office at a large vape company and I remember asking about the disposable vapes to be told “yeah it’s shit but since there’s a massive demand for them we have to sell them”.
Yes, it’s a no brainer. We’re trying to be eco friendly and suddenly these things pop up everywhere. And kids seem to love them seeing as I hear about 12 year olds getting hold of them, sometimes via stories on Reddit, which CANNOT be a good thing.
Unless they’re fully recyclable/reusable and can be easily recycled by the public, then ban them completely straight away. I know it’s better to get rid, but they are so ingrained now I think it would be difficult.
My sister and her partner used to use refillable vapes, but now only exclusively buy disposables because they’re so convenient and cheap.
>Under UK laws they must contain 2ml of e-liquid (or 600 ‘puffs’)
Is 600 puffs a lot? I’ve got no idea how people use these but that doesn’t sound like a lot and I imagine that they’ll be going through one of these vapes in just two or three days.
I’d like to think that making people aware and encouraging them to use electrical waste disposal would help instead of just banning them. But the fact that the article starts by describing how they’re often found thrown in the street doesn’t give me much hope, it’s sad to live in a world where we have to ban things because people can’t be responsible to do the right thing.
Never seen one ever in my corner of the west midlands, have seen the nitrous capsules though
It’s a solid YES. Cosmic level of garbage everywhere in my town, hardly any teenagers left who don’t vape… Unbelievable.
Yeah so much vape crap left all over my local station and parks
Yes, why they were allowed in the first place blows my mind. My boy says they’re discarded all over his school.
>It’s hard to make the jump from a £5 ready-to-go vape, to a £20+ reusable contraption
Can any vapers confirm this? I mean from an economic point of view it seems like a no brainer to pay for the reusable one, are they complex to maintain?
Yes, of course.
Things like the elf bars with opaque company ownership, lack of information on how their WEEE compliance is undertaken and the high nicotine levels are all reasons to ban them!
I hate the impulse in this country that we always jump straight to banning things but in this case it would be the most useful thing to do. The amount of e-waste these things generate makes my head hurt to think about. How did these ever get past regulators in the first place?
If one is worried about the waste of lithium batteries could they not just introduce a recycle scheme?
Banning seems extreme.
Agreed on the waste part but no one seems to be talking about how addictive these are. They have insanely high levels of nicotine in them compared to cigarettes and as someone who has used them, the nicotine withdrawal and cravings are a lot worse than when I was smoking.
Yes! Any type of plastic disposable waste should be banned. It’s about time we switched to long term products and biodegradable packaging etc.
Yes. Also, people need to understand these are designed to hijack your brain chemistry and take your money. Just like cigarettes
They’re an environmental disaster that should never have made it to market. So yes.
If we can’t ban them could we get a cashback incentive to recycle them or something?
Can’t use a straw but a vape that’s plastic with a battery is fine. Wot.jpg
Yes. Like cigarettes they are to adults as dummies are to kids. Some also contain nicotine.
Went to a corner shop by my work yesterday to get some vape liquid (forgot to bring some spare in my bag) and they don’t sell them anymore. Only the disposables. The whole back wall was absolutely full of them.
I manage a Vape Shop and I say “YES”.
I hate the damn things. Cynical devices – colourful, sweet, simple, addictive. But sadly we have to stock them otherwise we would go out of business, as there is so much demand for them.
Having said that I feel they are killing the industry anyway. They use extremely sweet, highly concentrated flavours as they don’t need to take into account the life of the coil beyond a day or 2 – so people moan when they try a ‘proper’ vape that it doesn’t taste the same.
Add to that, they are a low profit margin product – and are a restocking nightmare as there are so many brands and flavours.
And then there’s the kids attracted to our shops – only yesterday I had a gang of 13/14 year olds banging on our shop window for about half an hour, screaming obscenities – because I refused to serve them.
Hate disposables, hate them with a passion. Get a simple refillable Aspire Flexus Q, or Vaporesso XROS 2 instead – yes, there’s an initial outlay, but the low running costs mean the devices will have paid for themselves within a week.
I’m surprised they were even allowed in the first place.
Christ, yes. Reusable vapes have worked fine for years – any justification for disposables inherently includes an undercurrent of “ah fuck the planet who cares”.
Yes. Disposable single use anything should be banned.
I love them but still think they should be illegal!
Yes, 100% they should be outlawed. Anyone caught selling them should be subjected to some form of cruel and unusual punishment. They are a horrible horrible waste of resources and terrible for the environment. There is literally no reason for them to exist. People who say it’s cheaper than a reusable vape are kidding themselves because it’s a false economy.
