The real thing we have to learn from this is not the result of it all. But how it was made possible for a country to make such a shift.
Let’s not be blind to Europe’s flaws too.
What I want to say is that Brexit shows the real power and limits of referendum. It is the most powerful thing out there because once the result is out you can’t ever deny it or go back. This is quite literally the country speaking. Power to the people as they say.
But people can only make a good choice when they understand what the choice actually is. This comes with education, explanations of each possibility, pros and cons by experts in economics, politics or whatever. When has this long, painful, yet essential process occurred here?
When does it ever happen when it comes to referendum?
Never, probably. So the vote comes down to several things : influence, propaganda, false promises, anger or whatever feeling the country has toward the current government.
We really ought to make this way of voting what it was always meant to be : (real) power to the people.
