Gwent Police tuk-tuks: Force spent £68k on four vehicles

  1. > The response to the vehicles at a recent open day hosted by the force had been “overwhelmingly positive,” according to the force.

Everyone laughing at them is indeed positive.

  2. BMW called, they’d like to remind everyone about the C1.

£68k to try something out isn’t bad. I think they look daft and have inherent problems (stability being the biggest) but if they work, that’s all that matters.

Well, apart from pollution. I hope they are electric.

  3. Did a quick look, while the idea is nice, the amount spent seems… odd. (btw seem to be electric if I found the right model/company)

The model they used seems to retail from £11k on the website, so how they got it up to £17k per vehicle is a little bit off to me (I know, VAT added makes around £13k, but still a few grand difference), not to mention “multi buying” so to speak should have given them a bit of wiggle room to try and push for a cost reduction, no?

Then you have the problem of what happens when its cold and wet outside, I am guessing they wont be sat in the tuk-tuk, but 1 of the other vehicles they have access to? If the officer leaves the vehicle, how easy will it be to steal/vandalise it too? Its not exactly got doors to make it harder to get into it.

I have no problem with the reasons they bought them, I have a problem with the choice of vehicle they picked to perform the duties. Deffo think a more conventional vehicle might have been a better option.

  4. They do say are police force is turning more and more like China, tuk tuks seem the obvious choice of vehicle

  5. So I live in Newport. This is going to be fucking hysterical when people just roll them onto their roof.

Can’t wait to wheelie past them ony way up to Brecon Beacons 🤔

  6. first a indian pm… now police forces using tuk tuks. how long will it be before people in the uk start eating curries……. oh wait
