When they say energy crisis, they really mean energy companies.
There is no crisis. If it were a crisis, why are companies making record profits…
The current greed crisis* pushing people onto predatory prepayment meters*
>Comparison website Uswitch said 60,000 new meters were installed in Britain in the six months to March, reversing a long-term trend of the number falling.
That’s a lot, 300+ a day.
Make no mistake, if you’ve got a bad credit history and try any tricks like not paying the bills they’ll have you onto a prepayment meter.
Using a prepayment meter is the absolute worst way to manage energy debt. The entire system is managed to maximise the amount of debt you repay. That often means preventing you from having access to Energy in favour of “repaying” debt.
We were on holiday for two weeks recently, came back to a gas bill and, dated ten days later, a letter from BG’s collections arm suggesting we might want a prepayment meter as we might be having trouble paying the bill dated ten days before! I called them, paid the bill and complained. I wonder if it’s just that companies are getting more aggressive in chasing bills and some people feel they have no choice. I mean ten days between initial bill and final demand/threat is crazy. There weren’t even any reminder letters in between.
I’m already on one lol. It’s costing me, no joke, £20 a day some days for electricity alone and I’ve been in touch with my supplier and apparently that’s normal. I own my property so unless I wanna pay a lot of money upfront to have it all changed over I’m fucked.
