Tory backer says UK economy is ‘frankly doomed’ without Brexit renegotiation

  1. What’s that saying? Be careful what you wish for because it might just come true.

Would the EU show any empathy for the situation in the UK or do you think they just won’t care because of how we’ve behaved?

  2. If renegotiation did happen and the EU quite rightly took a hard stance, the leavers would be the first to say (after they had their moan) “see I told you the EU was the enemy, why are they making it so hard for us to get back in?”

Because Mr Leaver, contrary to what you believe, the UK is not above protocol, negotiations etc.

  3. Nah we have been told time and time by the Tories that Brexit was done and dusted. I’m positive they would not lie about this.

  4. Starmer really needs to sit-up and take notice of this, the Telegraph was saying that ‘project fear’ was right, now Tory donors. If he’s not careful the Tories could outflank him on the whole make brexit work stuff.

  5. Yeah a lot of us were kind of saying that a few years ago about the whole Brexit thing because it just seemed like common sense but wasn’t that called project fear or something? Anyway, no need for any further Brexit renegotiations as Boris got Brexit done. It’s over, this is it.

  6. Imagine how dumb you have to be to take yourself out of a multi trillion $ free trade market.

And yes. Everyone who voted Leave was stupid and they had been fed exaggerated lies.

Just accept this already. Brexit was a huge mistake.

  7. I’m pretty sure if Labour get into power, a renegotiation of Brexit with closer ties to the EU in mind would be on the table. Labour have positioned themselves as the reasonable party of good governance, and the only thing the EU are going to accept that will help us get out of this mess is closer ties, like maybe joining the Customs Union.

We can’t negotiate with the EU and make demands, but if we approach with a mutually beneficial arrangement for businesses in both blocs, they’ll be happier to work with us.

  8. Just do it slowly. First sign up to blindly accepting the rules on products/standard etc but dont have the free movement. Then join common market, etc etc. Finally full membership in 10 years or so. Memories are short and Brexiters are dying off each year

  9. Economy is doomed while also wanting to renegotiate one of the things that doomed the economy.

Sounds like the logic of a Brexiteer.

  10. Good luck getting the public to admit they were wrong though. The last few days have seen plenty of people being interviewed over the new PM, happily saying they want Johnson back “because he got Brexit done.” Brexit has caused severe economic damage and will continue to do so for years to come, yet that is fine in the eyes of many people because what Brexit represented is more important to them than economic prosperity.

  11. Never a truer word! They’re running out of excuses (Ukraine, truss, covid) the conservative vanity project is killing england by the pound

  12. Britain’s political establishment must do one of two things, or else they will keep tearing themselves apart:

    1) Deliver major benefits for being outside the EU

    or

    2) Rejoin the EU

It doesn’t matter what people want or how feasible the above two each are.

There is no option 3 apart from a continuation of chaos and a conga-line of resignations. It’s the fighting about how to pull off one of these and which one that has split the establishment into too many groups to manage. If they want that to end they need to be done with one of the above, and fast.

  13. Imagine being Gen Z and unable to afford to have a family because selfish old fuckeds hate foreigners. It’s a complete catastrophe.

  14. Well I do believe they shouldn’t have made the exist.

    The people voted to exit.
Every change comes with major costs.
The Nation voted for what can take aleats 10 years +/- to rebuild., and become a strong ‘industrial Nation once again.

Kwasi and Liz rue/budget successfully helped push the Nation years back. Pushed the aged in struggles.
    Etc..

‘ `Kemi I find to be a big let down, whether she has backed Sunak. Over estimated her. Far from ready.

Sunak hopefully will put the’ mature builderz’, as there is a long hard road ahead.

I believe his approach to the EU will be friendlier, genuine to keep a good relationship.
Those that don’t want to work with him
    .is an advantage. Less stress..

His been doing well, not saying much. Just needs to continue that way, while he puts things in order.
Few times he talks, must to bring transparency..

  15. Way to pass the buck, cause of course everything cam be blamed on brexit! Nothing to with an incompetent government at all…
