Pound gains as Rishi Sunak leads race to become PM

  1. Its all bullshit, the economy went tits up when he was chancellor anyway, and was made worse due to Liz Truss, its all a blame game in politics. WE NEED A GENERAL ELECTION NOW

  2. Pound gains? That’s a laugh. These tories have permanently damaged the pound, the people, services, the fabric of this country but aye we’ve gained a tenth of a cent (or whatever) against the dollar, so let’s hear it for Tichi Sunak. Remind me what he’s been doing, with who, for the last few years?

  3. This article is laughable. For anyone that follows the pound on the market, this is what it does. It fluxuats slightly from £1.11 to £1.13. This is not news.

  4. Some how I don’t think this is as much about Sunak becoming PM as Truss not being PM

  5. First Asian PM!

I love how the racists are getting their knickers in a twist over this. It’s like they can’t fathom a person of colour having the top job. Get fucked you archaic cunts

  6. Minor market fluctuations attached to whatever the media company wants to promote/attack are such low effort transparent form of manipulation.

  7. Another non story given that it was at 1.13 last week too. That’s now three articles the BBC have posted in the last fortnight celebrating 1p fluctuations up or down. Such lazy journalism.

  8. I seem to recall that there was controversy just a few months ago surrounding Sunak and/or his wife offshoring their money to cheat their tax liabilities.

    Same old, same old.

  9. Pound gained because Bozo pulled out. Can you imagine being that shit at your job that the market breathes a sigh of relief after you announce you aren’t running?

  10. Its funy how the Pound going down after the Brexit vote was a good thing for our exports, but now its a bad thing that it is low and a good thing for it to go up again . (it never has recovered from pre-Brexit).

  11. The pound was much higher earlier this year.

    $1.16 to £1 on 12th September

    $1.21 to £1 on 11th August

    $1.26 to £1 on 7th June

    $1.35 to £1 on 22nd February

    But…

OMFG THE POUND HAS GAINED AS RISHI LEADS THE RACE….

*^(Going from $1.1314 to $1.1360 (and then back down to $1.1314 by this morning)…..*

    Edit:
    Thanks for the correction!

  12. Be interesting to see what happens with the inquiry Boris has to face in December. There was someone else at that party from the Government, I can’t remember who.

  13. The UK doing the right thing and putting an Indian in charge 😂 It sure helped half the companies in Silicon Valley and it sure as hell will help the UK economy. And as liberal as many of you people think you are, the fact that his rise makes you seethe just a little makes me happy.

Happy Diwali to my fellow NRIs

  14. Yes!! Hope him and his billionaire wife put some money back in, no way they will look out for their own interests since they have so much money already

  15. “Pound rises/falls as x happens”. I always hate these articles that imply causality when looking at financial markets. There are huge amounts of fluctuation that simply have no external cause.

  16. Not a fan of the Tories, but that’s poor quality from the BBC. “As” is the most abused word in journalism.

    1. It is only a few base points and similar moves were made last week in response to Hunt’s and the leadership election announcements

    2. Among people who don’t know any better, the headline subconsciously links Sunak becoming PM with a stronger pound.

Just report the 2 separately. No need to imply causation.

  17. I need someone to explain what all those graphs are on those monitors. Like legitimately I’ve always wondered why I always see like 8 monitors in from of stock art models and news pictures like this. I’m tired of not knowing. Please tell me what professions need this

  18. Well it was knowing you all, not only did we go through all the cunts to try and get a competent leader, we now have a pm who’s only interest is corporate interests and himself. He literally has all the ammunition to drain the countries money faster than they previously could. I wonder when sunak is going to announce a new way to kill the British population off? Eat out and help out 2.0? Ciao.

  19. What’s more annoying is they could have had him 8 weeks ago without the cluster fuck of the other clowns they put in
A drama entirely of their own making and every fucker else pays the price

  20. Blaming Rishi for pandemic and war related economic situation is same as Republican blaming Biden for the same or opposition blaming modi for the same thing.

  21. Another in a long line of rich Tory wankers telling us that tax breaks for the rich are good for you. Any day now those pennies will start trickling down.

  22. what does this actually mean for us. as i understand it, the economy went tits up because the pound wasnt valuable, therefore stuff got more expensive. does pound becoming more valuable mean stuff will go back to normal, price wise?? i have dyscalculia and anything about maths or numbers is beyond me. someone please explain it plainly??
