She definitely got docked points for having writing on her clothes lol
Meanwhile the likes of John O’Donoghue milks the people with his pension… a sick society
Fair play to her. It is a massively underpaid/underthanked profession. I’ve only needed it a few times in my life but the men and women who do it have been stellar.
Who downvotes a post like this.
I read it as “Fair Play For Nursing”…. twice! Thought it was one of clap for the front line staff things.
Most countries are doing something for their nurses during covid. Extra pay, covering registration etc. We got a fucking clap on a Thursday evening.
Wait, I thought Miss Ireland was South African?
Well that’s why we had no sheets this weekend.
🙄
She’s a nurse.
Pay me more this says.
What a national hero.
I read ” fair play”
Good woman yourself Miss Ireland.
People will be looking into her house now that she has no curtains!
By which you mean something that is already popular and is just her virtue signalling lol
The bigger issue at hand is why is she there, historically we have been the only people in the west to show solidarity with the people of Palestine shameful that she didn’t boycott that hellhole of a country.
She doesn’t seem to care about nurses murdered by the IDF though.
Nurses make a fair amount already.
What? Miss Ireland 2021 is Pamela Uba, she’s black. Dunno who this is. There was no Miss Ireland in 2020. Who is this person? Is this an old pic?
Edit: just found this, you learn something new everyday:
> Before 2002 the winner of Miss Ireland went to Miss Universe. Started in 2002 the first annual Miss Universe Ireland has been held by Andrea Roche (former Miss Ireland 1998). The winner represents her country at Miss Universe pageant.
Turns out this isn’t Miss Ireland. This is ‘Miss Universe Ireland’
What a hideous costume. But fair play to her.
Friends wife is a nurse, remember her telling me about the problems HSE nurses face. ‘Friend’ turns around and says to me, ‘where do you expect them to get the extra money from? Increase taxes? Bloody leftists.’
Of course I had never seen him in this light, as we were out of touch for a few years. How many people do you think harbour similar ignorant views in this country?
Large portions of the working class think they’re middle class, or upper middle class. Same people usually think we live in a meritocracy and that social welfare fraud is the countries biggest problem.
Edit; his conclusion is that the senior nurses are to blame for the entire issue, as they ‘betrayed’ the younger nurses. I told him the situation should never have reached a point where they’re putting worker against worker. Called me a lefty who wants everything for free..*sigh*..
These are the voters responsible for your misery.
She did it….she fixed everything
And here’s me thinking a fair wage for nurses was something we could all agree on. Christ some of the comments in here. There’s far too many cunts in this country.
Someone trolling r/ireland hard.
1) I dont think you’ll find anyone opposing a nursing pay rise after the effort and sacrifice during the pandemic
and 2) that’s not miss ireland.
You’re really testing peoples ignorance here and I’m having a difficult time deciding if you’re clever, or just really dumb
/r/theratio
They all have lovely bottoms
Nurses are the most unionised and fairly treated profession in the medical sector by a long shot. Even aggressively so.
Have you ever tried running research or changing practice for the better in the hospital only to be hard blocked by a crotchety old group of CNM3’s on 100k salaries who do very little? It’s ridiculous.
They make a very fair salary for the amount of work they do and the amount of school they went to.
Some of the older specialist nurses are on over 90k…and a good proportion work 9-5 40hr weeks and do Jack shit. I personally know one who’s on 105k and is the lead research nurse for a unit in a major academic hospital here…and she’s doesn’t even know how to use excel…nor does she care to learn.
I love nurses, they can be an absolutely invaluable part of the clinical team. The younger freshly graduated ones are so keen to learn, help, and just generally get involved in patient care. The ICU, CCU, and theatre nurses are generally fantastic as well, because they are highly skilled and motivated and willing invest in their patients.
BUT in Ireland nurses will still refuse to put IVs in patients, do bloods, put in male urinary catheters, and generally help perform vital tasks to care for their patients (despite the transfer of tasks legislation that happened roughly 10years ago). It’s a giant unionised crock of shit. Go to any other country in the world, and all of that, if not more, is entirely taken on by the nurses.
Try being an intern, SHO, or Reg with a team of 3 people, 1 on nights, 1 off with covid…so it’s just you rounding on your 21 patients having to triage the ones who have an acute issue and get them life saving treatment. You ask the nurse to please make sure your patient gets they’re morning dose of antibiotics because for some reason it wasn’t given last night. They tell you the reason it wasn’t given was that the IV infiltrated and they need a new one. Then they say you have to do it because they haven’t been trained. Add to this that you’ve already worked 80hrs this week and it looks like it’ll be about 10 more before you’re done. Unbelievable.
When do you presume doctors were ever trained to do any of the menial tasks….we weren’t. You learned by watching, trying, failing, and getting better. And most importantly by wanting to learn and improve your ability to care for your patients.
The reason you hear more from nurses, and not from physicians is because we accept our circumstances. We identified the profession, worked our asses off to get in, worked our asses off to graduate, and then have to go through 10ish years of post-graduate training to even become fully qualified. I’ve been in college for 16years and have another 5 at least to go. I make around 40k. I have over 100k in debt.
But I chose to do this and I love every second of it. I love treating patients and learning every day. I won’t bitch and moan because I’m doing what I love.
European working time directive is laughable in medicine….even if you’re supposed to be off by law, if your team or patients need you, you’ll be there.
If you’re a nurse and your unhappy being a nurse and the lifestyle that entails…then go do something else and make room for those fresh graduates who can’t find work as a nurse.
Nuff said.
Oh…also not taking prescriptions for FLUIDS over the phone….seriously? Every other country in the world at the very least does that. Why not here you might ask…nurses Union won’t take on the potential liability.
She is beautiful and Brave

Nurses should definitely be paid more. I know this is a deeply unpopular opinion, but ALL public sector workers are underpaid.
The reason our public services are such a shambles and struggling to retain staff is because of the awful remuneration.
Reminds me a lot of old political posters from the late 1800s, early 1900s. You’d have a fair maiden with a crown and maybe a wolfhound, a ‘representation’ of the state. A grave concern, pulling at the heartstrings with the exact same font and outline, against a cream coloured background.
She literally looks like she walked off the set of some b sci-fi series about Celtic superheros.
