Congratulations to all the Brazilians in Ireland 🎉
2022-10-30
According to RTE:
> More than three quarters of Brazilians who voted in Ireland favoured Mr Lula in the previous round, with just 13% backing Mr Bolsonaro.
Agreed.. well done to all the Lula voters. He got through by the skin of his teeth!!😱🤣 Thank god that arsehole Bolsonaro is gone!!🙌
This isn’t just significant for Brazil, it’s a dam in the flow of far-Right and Right-wing victories in Western democracies.
As far as I can make out, Bolsonaro is the first president not to be re-elected since Brazil introduced democracy in the 80s, so it’s not just a victory for a progressive candidate, it’s a palpable rejection of the extreme Right after having given the menu a little nibble.
A Bolsonaro win would have normalised the far Right to an extent which it hasn’t hitherto had in a relatively advanced economy.
Delighted for the beautiful people of Brazil! Caipirinha and pints all round 🇮🇪💚🇧🇷
Good to see, hope it’ll be a peaceful transfer of power.
Those numbers are far from a decisive defeat; i hope there’s a peaceful transfer of power and this Lula chap will bring about positive change for the ordinary person
Congratulations on getting that monster out of office! He’ll be hard to budge!
Good that JB lost, but these constant 55-45 votes are getting sillier. A maximum of people aren’t getting the wannabe dictator they voted for. It’s a minimum of democracy.

Surprised Lula one as Bolsanaros lackeys were engaged in voter suppression, and he still lost even with all the cheating he was doing.
He will probably try to go a coup next.
A tightly contested race, however considering the fuckery that Bolsonaro and his cronies have been at throughout the election it’s actually amazing that Lulu got over the line. Let Lulu lead the line against the Trumpian nonsense that’s been causing chaos in recent years. A true populist. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Depressing that it’s that close, just hope nothing goes wrong between now and Lula taking over.
Where’s the same hate for Brazilians voting in similar proportions for something barbaric as there is for yanks and Brits? Bolsonaro is arguably way more regressive than Brexit or the Tories too
Is being able to vote from abroad normal? Can we do that here?
EDIT 2: After reading, seems like it’s the norm and we’re the weird ones.
And this is a clean win.
Bolsonaro used the federal halfway patrol to block Lula voters, mayors’ blocked the free public transport in areas of poverty and indigenous communities also were not given access to transport during the voting day.
Even with all that we won.
Now we are waiting for another of his schemes to happen. 2 months until Lula can take the position officially.
How did Brazilians in Ireland vote last time? Guessing they vote more anti-Bolsonaro than the general public because they’re better educated than most. Is it similar round the world?
The South American Trump is out!!!!
Not a Bolsonaro fan by amy means but wadnt Lulu super corrupt?
I’m no fan of Lula, but Bolsonaro really is a shit. Let’s hope that his telegraphed coup attempt falls flat with minimal bloodshed.
Fair play to brazil!
Amazing news. We needed some good news.
Hopefully this means the Amazon rainforest gets some rest, under Bolsonaro an area larger than Switzerland was cleared. He was bad for Brazil and the world!
Thank you! Finally, this killer is going down. Here in Ireland, Lula won with 81,81%
Why did all the well off richer areas vote for bolsonaro?
Lula is infinitely better than Bolsonaro but Lula is also corrupt and not an amazing choice, shame there were no better viable alternatives
It’s just amazing that a country of that size can vote and get results back on the same day. Really well run operation.
I was always struck by the level of LGBT Brazilians in Ireland and elsewhere outside Brazil – when I heard some of Bolsonaro’s statements and policies I understand.
I feel like denying that you lost is going to become SOP for right-wingers from now on. Trump, Bolsonaro, etc.
Troubling that 13% of Brazilians in Ireland backed Bolsonaro is what I take from this.

That’s a closer vote then I had thought.
